New here. First FF played since FFX on PS2. I was not sure of posting it in the walkthrough or this subsection as my question contain both.
I am now in chapter 10 in the fifth ark, and passed the point where all paradigms are open to all members. So far I have not read any guide fully. the only thing I got with reading a guide is that to not do any upgrades or those exp thing until the end of the game. Is chapter 10 the end or should I wait further up?
I've read the weapon upgrades path and it seems pretty complex and did not bother with that or the exp up till now. Also the sentinel paradigm is not that worth it. I noticed to get 5 stars in normal battle mostly I rely on:
Com-Rav-Rav
or Com-Rav-Com
Sentinel, sabetour and medic reserved for hard fights. Also, I noticed that once you get your paradigms in placed, the fighting seems like auto-pilot most of the time.
Lightning, Fang and Hope are the best combination as I get a all paradigms but I never use fang's sentinel anyway. Also, I noticed that once I have customized the party's paradigm, changing characters ruins the process. Part of it is because all the high end equipment are distributed among those three.
Are there secrets in this game which I can unlock or have I missed the chance? Also, is there benefits of having maxed out all characters, all attributes and having the most powerful weapons?
Last question, does your save file carry forward to FFXIII-2? Do you get perks if you finish this game or something? I am not sure I will pick up the XIII-2 or just watch the lets play videos on youtube as it saves time. This game is so linear. Treasures are at ends which deviate slightly and all you do is kill enemies and walk to where the yellow arrow shows you then cut-scene. The process repeats itself. For a PS3 game, I'm disappointed a bit. But then I borrowed this game, so its fine. But coming from FF7, 8, 9, 10 and FFT and FFTA I'm not that impressed.
For your first question: Ch. 10 is not the end. There are 13 chapters total.
For your second question: There aren't really secrets, but once you get to Ch. 11, you are able to do Cei'th Missions. There are 65 missions. You can complete some of these missions before you continue on to Ch. 12, but once you beat the game you unlock the last crystarium level which lets you max your characters stats. From there you are able to beat some of the more difficult missions.
And for your last question: The only carryover to XIII-2 that I know of is you get a crystal accessory you can put on the monsters you collect.
Hope this helps you.
Also, I wanted to add that I also only use Lightning, Hope and Fang and used the same paradigms for almost every battle
Com, Com, Com-I opened Hope's Com in Ch. 10
Rav, Rav, Rav-I opened Fang's Rav in Ch. 10
Com, Rav, Sab
Rav, Syn, Com- I always started on this paradigm so Hope could haste the party.
Med, Rav, Com
Med, Med, Sen
This setup worked for almost every battle I did. If there was a battle I couldn't complete I would usually change Fang to Sen in every setup except the Sab one. I also opened up Sen for Hope and Lightning and Med for Fang when I did some of the late Cie'th missions.

If you want real challenges, try and finish all the cieth missions. I believe some of these missions can only be found in a few secret places in Gran Pulse.
If you think XIII was linear for you, then you could always try XIII-2 for its improved gameplay mechanics and non-linear features. I can't guarantee that you'll enjoy the story though, but the gameplay is a much better experience than XIII, at least for me.
Thanks. I am currently stuck on few cieth missions. Some 45>. I also notice that I cannot still kill that adamantortoise thing but can kill the slightly smaller without the tusks. The crystals are at lvl 4. I am currently killing the smaller one for the gold dust, killing cactuar for some CP and repeating this cycle for lots of times. I have also defeated barthendelus but did not go on the airship yet.
Should I go ahead with the story or keep mining? This is going to be a very very long game if I keep mining. It is possible to come back to this place in future right? Thanks
You'll be able to get back to Gran Pulse at the end of ch.13 (right before the final boss). You can still farm CP in the next chapter so don't worry about that. You should probably get the Growth Egg now to save a lot of time in your farming. That is mission 55, but you have to do 14 first to unlock the Chocobos. Mind you it's going to be very hard unless you spam Death.
As for the SAB-SEN-MED roles, they'll be useful for the side missions and the toughest turtles (which you haven't seen yet) - even all maxed up, if you don't switch to SEN-SEN-SEN they can ohko.

Snow/Hope/Vanille as SEN/MED/SAB. Give Snow as much HP as you can and keep spamming Death with Vanille to kill them all. It can take some time but it saves you a lot of time later. There are some tricks to speed the battle up in other threads.
how do people have trouble playing this game and 100% completing it? I farmed on behemoth king/megisotherian duo while watching anime. After about 10 hours i maxed my crystarium and went off to kill every adamantoise until i had my ultimate weapons.
I gave up. Finished the game. I got 4 themes. Missing snow, serah and fang. First FF game I finished without finishing all unlockables-which says a lot the sheer boredom when playing this game. Ended up downloading the missing themes.
I think the for XIII-2, I'll just view the youtube videos and skip to the CG parts.
Geez you don't have to be so harsh. I was just trying to show how insufficient the game play was. You didn't even have to concentrate on any of the battles. Anyone who has trouble playing the game to its completion is probably just not grinding enough. The only reason I liked the game was because of its story.
The story is so-so. Because it is so deary, you loose sight of the story. I finished the game, and still have problem telling falcie, lacie apart. Lunar SSSC has a better story. In fact it has only one story. The only reason I finished the game was that I watched tv on the other monitor while playing this game. I am not playing any FF13 again.
Now does anyone know good youtube video edits of ff13-2 that only shows the story without the grinding part?
