I know I always suggest this, but Y: The Last Man is one of my favorites. Basically all the men on earth (save one) die and it's...awesome so you should all read it.
Also, Runaways and Astonishing X-Men. I'm not very familiar with any many recent superhero comics, but most the ones I have read have been underwhelming...and/or written by Grant Morrison which beckons this face: I am beyond over him and his perceived genius.
As for Buffy, I'm still on the season 8 comic which has been off/on for me...but mostly off. I miss the show *crying*, but I've heard great things about season 9 so I'm holding out hope lol.
and I just started Gotham City Sirens. It's too early for me to have a definitive opinion on it, but I'm enjoying it so far *shrug* I love me some bat-ladies.
Don't torture yourself with Season 8 Rami, it starts good but peaks and issue 5 and after the first couple of arcs it gets so sucky and idiotic that... ugh, I still can't believe it happened.

lol, me too. I don't see what's so genius about his New X-men: he basically came in and said "we'll do this my way". He came up with some good ideas but others were just terrible.
I've said it before and I'll say it again now, Grant Morrison is to this comics era what Rob Liefeld was to the 90s: he's got dozens of titles and everyone wants him/wants to be him now, but in 10-20 years we'll be looking back and wondering what the hell we were thinking.
For bonus points, in every interview with him I've read he's been as obnoxious and open to criticism as Liefeld is.

The one thing I'll give Morrison is he isn't as bad as Liefeld, but I'm just really not a fan of his writing style at all. It's so caught up in grittiness and his perceived "cleverness". It's pompous and overrated and I have trouble accepting any of his as canonical - it's all "alternate Morri-shitverse" to me.
And at least Morrisson gets someone more talented (mostly Frank Quitely) to draw for him instead of whatever it is Liefeld spews out and tries to call art.
Morrison-verse, exactly! But comparing him to Liefeld is a bit too harsh Whip His work on NXM wasn't completely shit even if overall I don't like it and the shit he pulled with Magneto is still one of the X-men's darkest hours. Maybe it's because I really love Scott and Emma together that I can't completely bash him, even though I only started liking them when Whedon wrote them. Still, "All I ever did was die on you" is such a great line. Liefeld couldn't have handled Scott and Jean like Morrison did.
I ended up getting The Runaways #1 and #2, off of Rami's recommendation. They had NO New 52 Batman issues so I was like, "Hmmmm, they don't have issue 1 of Nightwing and no Catwoman, plus Batwoman freaks me out, better go with Batgirl." So I grabbed the first three issues of that. I really like it so far, but I just don't understand why they brought Babs back as Batgirl. It just seems...weird.
I also grabbed Ultimate X-Men, it looked decent so I thought I'd give it a try. Next time I'll grab Brian Wood's X-Men, I wasn't able to find it anywhere.
And then I was walking out and saw the Uncharted comic and was like, "Welp, I need this." Will go back for more soon.
EDIT: I actually got the Ultimate Comics X-Men, not Ultimate X-Men. Just to clarify.
I'm not sure if I already recommended it or not, but I can't urge every single one of you enough to read Saga (especially if you liked Runaways, which I haven't read, but it's by the same author, Brian K. Vaughan) It's simply great. It's 5 issues in now, and the 6th comes out next week I believe. These are the first few pages:
Spoiler:
Morning Glories is good too, but requires the utmost patience. It's kind of like Lost if the island were a school. I didn't like Lost all that much, but I like this, so don't let that put you off. Wary of posting anything for fear of spoilers if you actually read it, but maybe this page will be enough to inspire you to read it:
Spoiler:
Also, since we were talking about black, white, and Samuel L Jackson Nick Fury, I thought it'd be worth posting this from yesterday's Spidermen.
Miles Morales, is his story actually worth reading? There's an alarmingly low number of big name African-American superheroes and an even lower number of mixed race heroes. When I read Spider-Man I read to see a guy in a suit beat up the bad guys, so I don't actually care if it's Ben, Miguel, Peter, or Miles that's laying the smackdown. Still, I'm intrigued and I want to know if Miles has any big time battles.

I haven't really been reading much of Miles Morales, but one of his recent big battles was against his uncle. the man goes by the name Prowler. can't spoil the rest for you though.

@Em: Ultimate comics: X-Men = good choice.
Ah that's right. I heard his "Uncle Ben" is quite different from the character type we're all familiar with.
