Like any family comedy, Wreck-It Ralph does have a few cringe-worthy moments where the writing doesn't really hold up. For the vast majority of the experience, however, there's simply a great deal to love. I was afraid going in that this was simply a feeble attempt by Disney to capture the gaming demographic and would be as embarrassing as an elderly grandparent trying to imitate that hip youngster lingo. After seeing the movie, though, it's clear they knew their stuff. There are tons of references from the overt to the subtle; even as a nearly life-long gamer, I don't think I caught them all. The story itself is really heartfelt and definitely has more than enough earnest feeling and sudden laughs to make up for shortcomings.
Maybe not movie of the year, but it's still simply wonderful. I would recommend it to anyone who's even slightly interested.
