What is everyone looking forward to / expecting / fearing / hoping for etc. in the second season?
For me, it's, as I said, an explanation as to what happened specifically to each of the original cast. I'd also like some kind of larger conflict, such as the main villain attempting to pull an Ozai or whatever. And to go along with that, new environments. As much as I love Republic City, I feel that there's not much that can be done with it now that Amon's plot arc is done with.
So when I first heard Tarlokk say 'Amon is my brother,' I groaned. I'll be honest, I had been hoping for a much more exciting reveal; eleven episodes spent wondering who or what is behind the mask, with statements like 'what are you?' really making me think it was going to be something bigger than it was.
But then the writers used that twist and rather than let it stand on its own, used it as an incredibly moving emotional device. I think Tarlokk's flashback went on a bit too long, but otherwise it was an incredibly touching story. I loved how Amon was trying to do what he thought was right, keeping this huge secret even from his most trusted commander. And then Lance Henriksen had his moment in the sun when he tried to stop Amon (who I'm guessing killed him, those were some pretty nasty 'crunch' sounds.)
Then Korra getting her bending taking away. I honestly thought that was how they were going to end it for a moment, with the avatar cycle being broken and thus that symbol of bender authority being done away with. But then she air bent and I nearly cried with joy. I thought Amon was going to try something again when he come up in the torrent of water but obviously he realised he'd lost the moment the commoners saw him bending.
Which brings me to the moment where Amon and Tarlokk are on the boat. Wow. Talk about dark; if anything proves Korra is essentially an adult animation which happens to be on Nick, it was that scene. I thought when he picked up the glove it'd be the old 'knock out' routine, but then the explosion came and my jaw dropped with shock. Suicide and fratricide in the same second? Blimey. I do hope Amon survived though, but it's pretty unlikely.
As for other goings on, I thought Iroh was a very cool character and I can't wait to see more of him. I half expected Asami to off her father for a second, but cold-blooded patricide would probably be a bit too far. Bolin did alright but throughout all the season he's been my least favourite, he just feels like a lesser copy of Sokka.
Then that ending. When I saw Aang in the snow, I got hit by a massive wave of nostalgia. Everything after that was so beautiful, it had me crying. I've said a few times that although a good character, Korra's never really felt like the avatar. That changed this episode, and she was utterly cemented as the reincarnation of Aang when her eyes lit up and that wonderfully familiar music played.
If I wasn't so in love, I'd say it was a perfect way to end the series as a whole. But that would never do; we need at the very least another two books. I just can't imagine what the next threat would be; I thought it'd be set up in the last few minutes, but it didn't seem to happen. The writers proved themselves geniuses in this though, so I have complete trust in them. I'm still staggered at the amount of content they managed to cram into just twelve episodes of twenty minutes. I feel like I've known the cast and world forever, and I've only been with them for five hours at most.
Like I said, hopefully the next book isn't the last. And if god is good, he won't let M. Knight so much as catch a glimpse of the show's opening sequence.
Next time I have a free day, I'm going to watch the entire first season in a huge marathon. And it will be glorious.
WHY FUCKING MAKO? PERSONALITY OF A WET TOWEL! JUST BECAUSE HE'S THE GOOD-LOOKING FIREBENDER! Felt so sorry for Asami, honestly she was pretty fucking brave and loyal and special too BUT DID MAKO NOTICE? NOOOOOOOOOO. 'OH DON'T MIND ME, JUST DISOWNING MY ONLY FAMILY MEMBER FOR YOU!' 'DON'T MIND ME, NO BENDING BUT I'M FIGHTING ANYWAY!' Ugh, this was just for the Katara/Zuko shippers wasn't it? Fucking fuck.

Honestly, as much as I love Makorra, I can totally feel for Asami. That was shitty on Mako's part, but I just like him with Korra much better. I'm sure they'll wrap that whole conflict up early next season though.
And I'm glad they're going to pretty much add another half a season to Book 1, a lot of the character development felt a bit rushed and some of the plot did too. It'd be like if TLA's 3rd season ended with Aang defeating Ozai on the Day of Black Sun.
