So the Smithsonian has this exhibit going on now that, well

"The Art of Video Games exhibition will explore the 40-year evolution of video games as an artistic medium, with a focus on striking visual effects, the creative use of new technologies, and the most influential artists and designers
You may have even voted on what games you thought should be in it at some point last year. Well, the results are in. http://www.artofvideogames.org/
Any agreements/disagreements? Remember, this is 1. about the art, and 2. about the evolution of the art, not what the best game was.

Thoroughly agree with what this exhibit is trying to show; that yes, video games really can be a form of art, if done correctly. I wish I could check it out...
Yeah the problem with the category system is that some fields were a LOT stronger than others so plenty of great, significant titles missed out while other, arguably lesser titles made it in (case in point, I don't recognise many of the titles in the Target Genre, nor, incidentally, why Doom II and Halo didn't go in that instead of Action).

Target Genre seems to be aiming more at the various types of shoot-em-ups than first and third person shooters.
