Default Smithsonian's "The Art of Video Games"

So the Smithsonian has this exhibit going on now that, well
Quote:
"The Art of Video Games exhibition will explore the 40-year evolution of video games as an artistic medium, with a focus on striking visual effects, the creative use of new technologies, and the most influential artists and designers
You may have even voted on what games you thought should be in it at some point last year. Well, the results are in.

Any agreements/disagreements? Remember, this is 1. about the art, and 2. about the evolution of the art, not what the best game was.

Thoroughly agree with what this exhibit is trying to show; that yes, video games really can be a form of art, if done correctly. I wish I could check it out...

I might be able to go see it when I go down to DC in mid-April. Definitely sounds like an interesting exhibit.

Monkey Island got some recognition. This must be valid. Except no American McGee's Alice. =[

Yeah the problem with the category system is that some fields were a LOT stronger than others so plenty of great, significant titles missed out while other, arguably lesser titles made it in (case in point, I don't recognise many of the titles in the Target Genre, nor, incidentally, why Doom II and Halo didn't go in that instead of Action).

P.N. 03 didn't win its genre? But the animation is so beautiful. ;;

Target Genre seems to be aiming more at the various types of shoot-em-ups than first and third person shooters.

... I'm sure I saw Okami in the 5th gen PS2 list.

EDIT: Yeah, beat FFX and KH2 on the Adventure list.

Okami is beautiful but you have to play it muted. The "voices" are horrible. Didn't bother with Okamiden, but DS seemed like the right place to go.
