Xenosaga and FF13 are the same. They're both futuristic JRPGs that involve religion and are both extremely linear and have long cutscenes where most of the action happens. The cutscenes have the action and the game is just fights and walking, but there's a cutscene every 5 minutes.
Why then, do people like Xenosaga and dislike FF13?
Is it because Xenosaga is good and told well and FF13 sucks?
Yeah, sure... with at least one glaring singular difference (or dozens)...
Xenosaga sucks
Yeah, they're nothing alike, IMO. XIII is a different sort of SciFi/Fantasy fusion. Xeno was more straight up SciFi and... well, most of it made no freak'n sense to me. Characters were mostly uninteresting it was deplorably linear (okay, XIII has that going for it anyway) and the character progression system was waaaaaaay different than either 13.
But, yeah sure... religion and all that. But, all JRPGs have long cutscenes and XIII is actually pretty brief by comparison.
It seems to me you're generalizing a bit. Nearly every JRPG is fashioned from the same mold. They all look and play more or less alike.

I agree Gladys. It's like Star Wars and Star Trek. They're both in space and they have space ships with the most linear plots. Don't forget about their plasmic rayguns. They're the exact same thing except with a different sound effect.

i like ff13 and the xenosaga games :O i did have to beat the xenosaga games twice tho cuz it's hard to understand wtf everything means untill after u beat 3rd game
Way too old. But as some interesting trivia FFXIII is considered a throwback to FFVII. FFVII had its own prototypes. Before current the FFVII existed a title named Xenogears was propose as the storyline for the next Final Fantasy game which at the time was FFVII. However the script was called too dark and complicated for a fantasy. This same series eventually became Xenosaga which is a throwback to Xenogears. Although XIII to Xenoblade might be an easier argument considering the two are very loosely based off their predecessors. Hmm Kosmos & Shion x Lighting & Serah.
