A trend has arisen recently where people are posting potential news items in existing threads. E.g. Someone posting a new magazine scan in an 8 day old thread about gameplay videos (that wasn't even in the News forum to begin with), or someone linking to a newly-revealed music piece in a (newer, but still substantially unrelated) thread about screenshots.
For an idea of why that's bad, imagine the average forum member. They come on (or don't leave because they're unemployed for heading on 20 months now and can't afford a social life of more video games) and see that there's no new news threads, so they can go back to playing ass-grabby with Liara T'Soni or killing Templars or whatever. But wait! One of you, perhaps suffering from dementia, has posted some news in an existing thread! Well good for you, because now half the people won't see it. I hope you're happy.
And then the people that DO see it decide to comment on it. And then someone else comes in and decides to comment on the news the thread
was originally and solely intended for. Things get confusing.
The News forum has existed since 2006. You have five years of examples of the kinds of things to be posted here. If it's new but you don't think it warrants a thread in the News forum because, let's be honest, not everything is that important, then we have
forums that
exist for
these types of
things.
Dear children, heed this. I now have the ability to hand out custom infractions which means that I can nail you for this. And I cannot fathom why we are suddenly having this problem.
