NOOB weapon/equipment question

im not real familair with the FF series of games although i played and enjoyed 7 i have 13 now on the 360. Im wondering does it matter if I use up my inventory on upgrades will there be a point like in 7 when i could just fly around and gain xp and find stuff? i want to use up all my stuff to upgrade the gladius but im not sure how the upgrade process will work out...also for fang should i use a lv1 pandoran spear of lv12 bladed? should i upgrade the pandoran? and is it more beneficial to sell stuff you dont want or dismantle? sorry about all the questions but im at ch 10 and not many people have weapons over lv 1-2 besides lightning.

..ps when i say i dont understand the upgrade process i mean i have looked at some faqs and they left me a bit confused with the transformation part

Second - "Best" weapons are hit and miss, depending on your roles you're going to stick to (There's only a small number that are actually useful though). There's a HEAP of info in the Spoilers section on weapons and their upgrades etc..

Check out the weapons upgrade forum in the Spoiler/Questions Thread and read through that, if there's any questions after that, post them there and avoid the flame throwers.
