While this is just speculation, do you think it's possible Lightning will die by the end of the story.
A couple of concepts that point toward this theory:
1. Lightning's Eidolon is Odin which obviously represents warfare and is known for instant 1 hit kills. There is definitely a connection as to why Odin is Lightning's Eidolon. In fact it may even be fare to say there will be alot of death in this tale as she is supposed to take down mankind.
2. In the logo, we see Lightning and possibly Serah go downard in a form similar to Yin and Yang with Odin leading the way.
2a. While it is speculated that Odin is Lightning's Eidolon, it is unclear if the Eidolons themselves are able to jump from being one person to another. Thus it is possible that Lightning's Eidolon may been at one Serah's and due to her supposed death in the trailer did he jump to Lightning since they are siblings.
3. Speaking of Yin and Yang, Yang is seen as the darker aspect of mankind which is also the side that represents women. It get's bigger in the same manner in the FFXIII logo. Black also represents death obviously with going downward an allusion to dying.
4. The entire logo points downward depicting a form of falling with Odin, and possibly Lightning and Serah having their eyes shut either meaning they accept this fate or they are sleeping/resting which also is a reference to death.
5. While now it is common knowledge that Ligntning's parents died when she was Hope's age, she may feel even more sad/emo/whatever you call it if Serah does die. Thus she may be feeling she is at some point going on a suicide mission. The fact she feels her remaining family is being taken away by Snow (many parents have that loss child syndrome when their kid gets married) means she is also desperate.
6. The Creators of X had a great deal of concept dealing with death, in fact some speculate that Tidus himself (who was a dream) was in some form an avatar of the dead. Since it is the same team behind XIII, we should undoubtly expect a great deal of it (even if the main character croaks along the way). Though not to scare anyone, just because the character is dead, doesn't mean they aren't part of the game or story.
7. Some developers make references to previous works or who is doing the work being part of the game (ever hear of games based off the Seiyous or however you spell that). Meaning since Maaya Sakamoto played as Aerith in the FF7 complications, this also may allude to Lightning dying.

Normally what I do overlaps with what I'm coming up with game concepts. I'll have to do research, think of strange ideas for a character or how a scenario could if I killed off a certain character in a certain way. Some of the times, when I'm looking up voice actors to see if they'd do well or have a cool way of doing a voice, I'll just stumble upon weird information. Like Snow's VA is apparently Troy Baker.
Most of time I'm working on my own projects but I'll occasionaly have the "blurp" idea at the spur of the moment like Odin = Death or relating to the logo to Yin & Yang.
Another thing I do is actively read the commentary or behind-the-scenes shit on dvds as they give insight as to how creators do their magic. Like in Samurai Champloo, the concept Fuu being more affectionate to Mugen was made directly when Watanbe asked the JPN VA if she'd hang with Mugen over Jin which she said yes.
So what I like do overlaps with my entertainment.

Also, Eidolon's are supposed to represent the personality of the holder, or whatever. Why would they jump from person to person when no two people are ever exactly alike and it would pretty much lead to some kind of contradiction anyway?
Wouldn't surprise me if Lightning croaked. And if she really does, we all know who to blame....
It'd be that goddamn sister of hers. She's not as cool as she used to be, but I wouldn't want her to die. It means that Snow might take over and... that... that's just terrible.
Or worse, Hope.
I think she needs to live, for the sake of my sanity and to save me from concern.

Smells like someone is assembling a lot of random facts into a conclusion they already decided upon. The yin and yang part especially smelled made up. Not the concept of what it stands for, but pulling yin and yang from the logo just because it swirls.
Aeris is no comparision to Lightning. Lightning looks like a powerful strong woman. Aeris was nothing special and die not far into the game. I would be disappointed if Lightning died. I like this character alot so far. Hopefully she gets a good ending in game. Aeris never missed her in FF7, Tifa was way better character in my opinion.
Although you did put alot into your theory. Great effort! I just hope its not true.
