Default If fayths are past high summons...

...then what did summoners summon in the first place? And if there are no more summoners there'd be no sendings, which is bad if you want to prevent any more Seymour types. Plus, if Yunalesca sets up temples of the fayth then shouldn't there be a Jecht temple?
Am I being dense or do I smell plot holes?

Haha yeah I've always been unsure which kind of detracts from the story for me a bit. I did a bit of reasearch and maybe fayths weren't high summoners just people who volunteers, but still the Zanarkand summons thing's a bit iffy

NO. The fayth are the people who willingly died to become fayth, not just summoners. It's obvious because Seymour's mother became a fayth but she wasn't a summoner. The only plot hole there is is how did people start becoming fayth just after Sin was born? How did they know how to become one if there was no fayth before Sin? Maybe Yevon gave them the teachings before he became Sin and it was written there, but this is just my speculation.

The Zanarkand thing wasn't really explained, but I guess it was a dream of the fayth which didn't really exist in Spira but in another dimension. Or something like that.

The Fayth were dreaming of a different reality, which could be moved into Spira. The Summons and Tidus were all parts of the fayth's dream, and disappeared when they stopped dreaming at the end of the first game.

Yunalesca obviously didn't set up a temple for each summon in the past. Its probably just certain ones, and considering Jecht was the current Sin, his spirit probably wouldn't be able to become a fayth, or something like that.

I'm guessing the first summoners were fayth, who could dream their own summon(s?) and bring them into existance. They can bestow the power of their summon when a summoner comes into contact with them.

Or thats at least what I think happens.

Final Fantasy X was awesome. The only con to game was no open exploration. FF7, FF8 and FF12 had awesome exploration. But story and gameplay was awesome.

Auron came from the realm of the dead, or whatever its called in this game. Assuming he's a spirit of sorts, It may allow for him to move between the dimensions of the dream of the fayth, and spira.

Tying all these lose knots....

There were obviously summoners way before Sin, since "the summoners of Zanarkand didn't stand a chance against machina of Bevelle". The question is rather: How did they figure out summoning in the first place at all?

That Guy: Yu Yevon used the dying people from the Machina War and made them into fayth, and used them to "summon" Dream Zanarkand, but the strain made him lose his mind completely, and Sin was born and all that was left was an instinct to protect himself and D-Zanarkand. Through this, he is the link between D-Zanarkand and Spira, and since he basically is Sin (by possessing a final summon), Sin becomes the link between these two worlds that can be used to travel. Besides, Auron was already dead, or rather unsent, thus he could use Sin to travel, and Tidus was a dream, thus he could follow Auron back to Spira.

i think i get it now, so tidus' zanarkand isn't the zanarkand from the bevelle war 1000 years earlier, its a dream zanarkand that exists in like a spirit world or something at the same time as the modern spira where the game takes place. and tidus didn't travel to the future he was just transported to the "real" world. i think, feel free to correct me

I was wondering the same thing. Thank you for patching it up for me. (;
This game is wonderful IMO, although it's sort of lacking in some areas.
