View Full Version : Who is disappointed by the races?

I personally am getting really excited for ff xiv. I've never gotten serious with a mmo and this it seems like it will be fun, and the armor system is reminding me of ff 9's equipment skills which i really liked. but i could not help but feel disappointed by the races. I was hoping for some new races or maybe some old designs considering there reusing the galka, the taru taru etc. Like i was hoping there would be an offshoot of a viera or a bangaa or even a moogle in the game or maybe a whole new design, especially when considering akihiko yoshida is the art director. The ones they have are good though, and i'll probably end up being a hume or a galka, but unless there are more races to be revealed, i cant help but feel a little disappointed.

I'm a little disappointed I guess. I was hoping they would come up with some news ones. Male Viera type would have been cool imo. But oh well, maybe they will surprise us in the end. And I guess if there is a demand for it it could end up in an eventual expansion.

Viera wouldn't fit at ALL with this game, seeing as it has nothing to do with Ivalice.

I'm not happy with the fact that they recycled XI's races, but I'm glad they changed their designs. I'll forever miss the Tarutaru (My little summoning furball <3), but the... Lalafell? I can't remember their new name, but they're decent. The rest I barely care about, though either way. The outcome could have been much worse, but I was hoping for something better.

I can't say I was real impressed with the races in FFXI, and I'm not real impressed with their very slight reimaginings in FFXIV. Even as far as MMO races go, these ones don't have a whole lot of personality. people, short people, pointy-eared people, hairy people, neko people (goddamn nekos). A little lame; it's like people with stuff added on are the only races in any MMO.

Oh well, still pretty psyched for the game nonetheless.

Hmm, strangely I don't really care. Then again, this is going to be the second Final Fantasy game, ever since I started with VI, that I'm not going to bother to get. The first one was Final Fantasy XI. It looks interesting as a game, but I'm not willing to part with more money than I have to (that being the initial cost of the game).

i think it's fairly sure that the team making this game have added more races or sexes to the game, since in a interview someone asked if they were adding more races or sexes and they replied something like "*smile* you'll just have to see"

they're ok. I like that they're pretty much the same as in XI because it gives me some form of familiarity, since i play XI as well.

however I kinda wish that they added more races to the mix. For one, I'd think male mithras.. um.. mi'qote should be added as well because its something everyone seemed to have wanted in XI. Another thing that woulda been cool is Vieras. They don't have to follow the origin/concept that XII used.. but seeing them appear would have been really nice.

That said, its possible that they could be planned but in secret and their announcement will come later to surprise people.

I've never liked great differences in races in the FF games, especially the ones they have introduced in FFTA, and continued with in FFXII. They're just kind of lame and hard to develop.

I'm glad they didn't arbitrarily throw in some races simply as an obligation. FFXII was based on an extremely detailed mythology that had histories and motives for the various races of Ivalice. Unless its done in that fashion, then there is no need to add races to the already sufficient mix of Moogles Humes and Afro-Cocoonians.

Just kidding.

I would hope so, because if they just kept all the same races and simply changed the names that would look... extremely lazy. I wouldn't buy any "Oh it's FFXI spiritual successor so no new races" bull crap, I would just see it as being lazy.

IMO, ffXIV supposed to be one of the different games. it just felt like if they were gonna do that then they should've just kept it within the XI compilation and took time to come up with a new story for the next installment. hell, what i wanna know is why aren't they talking about the races for XIII unless they're just leaving that as a suprise. (but if they said something about not putting them in the game earlier then it's whatever).

I'm definitely severly disapointed with the 5 same damn races returning. I mean seriously, wtf? Out of the many races SE has made, they decide to reuse races! I know it's early, but dammit I don't want a FFXI-2.

They're only making similar races so long-time players of XI can pickup XIV and make a character similar to the one they've been using for years, so that it at least feels familiar even if a lot is different.

I expected at least 1 new race and I think its stupid that even though they are all the same races they changed all the race names

To me a mithra is still a mithra a galka is still galka a human is human and a tarus a taru

That's my issue right there. SE needs to focus on the MMO market and not folks that are already playing their game if they want to make more money. Besides if they wanted long-time anything to jump in, they'd pull races from their previous works.

Seriously, who wouldn't want to play a moogle in a FF mmo? That alone would be my 15$ a month.

True a moogle would be awesome.
I bet their only jobs would be carrying stuff and bazaar-ing lol

Though i'm sure they are adding more sexes to the races.U never know they might add a few races.

I would probably some Baags from FFXII too.

I had this crazy idea just now.

What if you could change jobs at the get go whenever and wherever? And that the chocobo seen on the trailer carries your equipment. That alone speaks epicness.

Um, I believe that's what you can do. Your appearance and abilities change depending on the weapon you have equipped, so you could have a sword equipped and be a melee-type character, and then just equip a staff and you'll be a magic-user.

...You really didn't know that you could do this?

Yikes.

I knew it could be done, however as far as to the "how" it would work is beyond me as it hasn't been shown in any trailer (leaked or not) and if you had to talk to a moogle to change your class.

News and info about XIV is still pretty vague.

I didn't get FFXI, and I still don't feel like a missed a title in the series cause I've sort of ignored it. Though when that trailer for FF14 came out I was pumped and ready for it to be released. Though the races do disapoint me a bit. I don't really like the whole elf and dwarf thing in games, and it sort of feels like that with those elven people. But the taru tarus annoy me the most. I would have loved to see moogles as a playable race instead. I would have loved to see some old races from other games, but it wouldn't make any logical sense to mix and match races from different games, nor would it really feel right.

Though I guess in the scheme of things I'll end up being a human anyway. I think if in the end, the taru tarus were replaced by moogles I'd be happy. But it still looks really good and I can't wait.

*Holds up hand* Honest to Fat Chocobo, they couldn't have made 4 more bizarre-arse races in XIV?
Well...disappointed or not, XIV is a big step over XI, that for sure. Phenomenal looking game.
And hold on. This is the original, wait til the expansions come out. We should get more races then, not just Job classes.

After playing Aion, the characters in this look completely shite. :wtf:
