gravely disappointed by these songs... they don't sound at all like masashi hamauzu marvelous work except for resistance.. which i thought was mediocre at best.. chocobo was good in terms of the fast pace beat. however valiant and lightnings theme.. epic fail.

I really don't see what's not to love about the Chocobo theme. I really like the nice funky/jazzy beat to it.
Maybe some of you people will learn to appreciate the music once you hear it in game. <3

from all the footage thats been shown and the story thats been revealed, i think the music goes very well with the feeling of the game. Being a music major, the chords and key changes chosen and how they're put together are ingenious.
faster does not always equal better.

The Chocobo Theme sounds like it should be playing in a Golden Saucer-esque place. Chocobo racing will make its triumphant return.:cloud:
Overall, I like all of the music revealed so far. I want to hear it in game though, because most of the time Final Fantasy music is much more effective in context.

Let's hear it for the best percussion solo of all Final Fantasies! What a way to totally revamp the Chocobo Theme! I cherish the old version, but this new style is sooo fly.

Chocobo theme, FTW! Of course, the others are just as awesome.
Thanx again, Dire! ^_^
If that reprise of the Hanged Edge music will play in an emotional scene, I'll just cry. I mean, stand-alone it almost made me cry already. So beautiful! (the second half)

Does anyone notice how Lightning's theme is like a pianao version of the battle theme, 'Flash'?

I must agree, and I also agree with jolly_green13, I don't think they need to be fast to be good, however this music is slightly boring. I don't feel any real emotion from these songs. I mean it doesn't make me feel happy or sad, it just makes me want to stop listening because they're boring and dull. I hope the rest of the soundtrack is 5x better than these pieces.
Otherwise it wouldn't even be worth my time to download an illegal copy of the OST.

Well yeah, they were posted by me in the other thread. As I've always said, it doesn't hurt to have multiple sources : D.

This way, you'd have to convert the YouTube videos to .MP3 format. Go ahead and spend the extra time.

The chocobo theme seems way out of place to me..
I know in every game it seems alittle out of place..
But this one just seems outragous..

They need to put get the main theme from the newest trailer in there, I thought it was pretty good.

All I can feel till now is good music, I'm not feeling that nostalgic feel that prevous FF soundtracks make me feel but that's obviously because the game hasn't come out yet. I'm sure once it comes out and I complete it, I will here this with another perspective- hopefully a greater one.
Still great music. Epic jazzy chocobo theme ftw!!!

About the music, It's fine for me. At least, the ones I've listened so far are good I can't really complain :)
Chocobo's is a happy song, but it just feels weird :S

Ya, from what we have seen so far, it doesn't really fit with the atmosphere of the game. These are still great songs though, especially Lightning's theme

i agree 100%.. it seems on par with FF XII soundtrack.. good music but nothing nostalgic or spectacular about it.. i guess my hopes are too high for the music for this game because FFX was such a masterpiece.. i doubt we hear anything like that again.. :'(

How can the songs be nostalgic if you've never heard them before?
I liked them, but yeah, I'm sure they can and will do better.

We don't really know enough about the atmosphere of the game, since we haven't played it yet.
If anything, I think the music is indicative of what we can expect... a variety of diverse atmospheres.

@Dire - Umm, We do kinda know alot of the atmosphere.. We know its a game filled with Death and heartbreak and more things that aren't.. All Jazzy Chocobo themish.
It just seems like it doesn't fit.

weell, the ost is not comming out yet, so we can judge just yet.
and the ost of X was not that great, IMO, the song of hamauzu was the only thing that save the entire score(and there where just 20 songs composed by him)
It's stupid to say something fits or doesn't when we're watching blank page youtube videos. They've been taken completely out of the context of the game, you can't possibly say they don't fit.
I liked the piano version of the battle theme the most, but all four were really good.

What are you talking about? We know the general concept of the game.
And teh Jazzy Chocobo theme, doesn't SEEM to fit.
I never once said it didn't... It just seems alittle out of place.

I'm sorry if what I wrote seemed like an attack, I didn't mean it like that. I meant it more as reassurance that the music should be fine. =)
Look at FF8. You've got epic orchestral music (Liberi Fatali), jazzy music (Deling City), classical music (the dance), gothic horror-like music (the sorceress themes), futuristic music (Esthar) and plenty of Uematsu's own style. These are FF8's chocobo themes (my personal favourites), they're nothing like the rest of the game but they still fit-
YouTube - Final Fantasy VIII Music - Odeka Ke Chocobo
YouTube - Final Fantasy VIII Music - Mods de Chocobo
Knowing the general concept of the game isn't anywhere near enough to make judgments about the music. This game will last hundreds of hours for some remember, we've hardly seen anything.
I was thinking... That "resistance" theme, the beginning sounds like the Resistance Front ~ Hanged Edge from the demo. Maybe this variation plays after the area is filled with ice? I don't follow the game as much as some of you do, but I believe the area gets crystallized or something like that. At least the beginning of the track sounds quite "Icy". :)

Final Fantasy XIII has a futuristic setting. Personally for me, listening to this jazzy rendition of the Chocobo theme reminds me of traveling through a city. I think it suites the game.

I LOVE this music! Reminds me of 7 and 8. Cant wait to see what else they have!

No, someone "invented" that it's lightning's theme.....
The only revealed name so far is "Flash" (the battle theme).
So "lightning's theme" could be called "Flash ~ Piano and Strings Version". ;)

There was a pleasant surprise in the download file: the first song simply labeled "__"
WHERE DID THAT COME FROM?! I SHAT MYSELF (with glee, of course)!!
I have high hopes for this soundtrack. As long as it's better than XII's -- which shouldn't be hard to trump --, I'll be ecstatic. These songs, except for the militaristic ones (which I could do without, as of now), have so much life to them that most, if not all, FFXII tracks lacked. I can't complain about the quality of the sound, either; Hamauzu's synth never fails to impress. The orchestral pieces sound even better, but that's just because the orchestra beats everything ;p
