Evening, all.
Name's James, but you can call me Jeans. Everyone else does, whether I like it or not. :D
Been a big Final Fantasy fan since I was a kid. I started out playing the at-the-time wrongly named Final Fantasy III on SNES, skipped Final Fantasy VII, and fell madly in love with Final Fantasy VIII (don't panic, I later went back to the Aerith entry and thoroughly enjoyed it). I've sort of drifted away from the franchise with the last couple of sequels because I wasn't able to play MMOs and never felt compelled to finish Final Fantasy XII, but I'm really looking forward to Final Fantasy XIII.
Hmm... important facts: I've been a blindly loyal Doctor Who fan since 1995, I'm a semi-professional writer (read: I've had one story published and am working on more), I like a drink, my tastes in video games is about as varied as my taste in music, and I think both The Spirits Within and Advent Children are pretty sort of marvelous films.
I've only had a quick glance round the forum, but the place looks brilliant. Hope to be here for a while to come. :)

Cool. What's the published book called?
Welcome btw.

Thank you, Saki. :)
The book is called Monstrous: 20 Tales of Giant Creature Terror. It's an anthology of short stories with a "1950s giant creatures B-movie" feel. My story is called Nirvana. Considering it's the first thing I ever submitted for publication, I was over the moon that it got accepted. It's a good feeling. I've never really wanted to be a professional writer -- I'm not good enough for that! -- but I enjoy writing and always wanted to get something published.
Now I have, it's one of those things I can tick off my Bucket List.

I know it wasn't directed at me, but that gives me 'Nam-style flashbacks to my last relationship. Ooh, matron! :halo:

WTF? Finish FFXII! I command it! There is a significant vocal minority who don't like FFXII, or can't be bothered to finish it, because their primitive simple minds don't understand the political story.
You strike me as a far more intelligent person. FFXII might better appeal to you if you give it a second chance and consider the following interesting observations:
• Vayne is actually the hero of the story, and those pesky rebels are the enemies going around terrorizing shit.
• The game is meant to be played like an MMO. It's a "single-player" simulation of the MMO experience, except optimized for single-player, so instead of controlling just one guy in a team of other humans, you control three AI characters. This is evident given the similarities between FFXII's ADB and XI's RTB. Before playing FFXII, I had never got the chance to play FFXI (the MMO). So while playing FFXII, I was glad that they gave me something "similar" to the experience of an MMO.
• It's a good game. Play it NAO!

Thank you for the kindly welcome, everyone. :)

Oh, it's not that the game doesn't appeal to me. There were just a lot of extraneous circumstances that collided suddenly and led to me setting it aside. Eventually, I just sort of forgot about it. It's on my list of "to be finished" games, I've just got to get another copy. I had the collector's edition, but I gave it to my brother during a "down" period in his life. He adores FFXII like I adore Persona 3. Can't get enough of it, that boy!
I dumped about 70 hours into the game before I had to set it aside. As I understand it, I was quite close to the end.
Apart from the oddly muffled nature of the dialog -- it sounds like they're speaking into a tin can throughout a lot of the game, which I guess is down to compression issues -- I really liked the game. I enjoy the battle system, I didn't mind grinding (of which I did a lot), and while the storyline was a lot less grand than is usual in the PS2 Final Fantasy titles, I enjoyed the political intrigue aspects of the plot.
Having said that, if I never hear "Basch lives!" or "Don't believe Ondore's lies!" again, it'll be too soon.

^ We told you to ignore him.
You better hear or you'll regret it.
And as someone said, while you're here, don't bow down to many times as you're subject to raep.
Have fun!
