According to Kotaku, seems that gamers in japan would need to pay a U.S equivalent to $5.35. Here's more

http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/4112/aa222886s.jpg

This December, Final Fantasy XIII (http://kotaku.com/tag/final-fantasy-xiii/) will hit Japan on the PS3. The release date is December 17 — so how long would players need to finish the game? A week?

Those who can barrel through the title on the quick might want to pre-order the ¥7,980 (US$88.88) title through retailer TSUTAYA by September 30. That's today! Those who do will get a ¥7,500 buy-back ticket that must be redeemed by December 24. That means, players can "rent" Final Fantasy XIII for the low equivalent price of $5.35.

While game rental is common abroad, it is not in Japan due to regulations and restrictions. (Oddly, music CDs are rented throughout the country.) If you ever wonder why used Japanese-owned video games are in such good shape, the reason is that many players buy a title, beat it and sell it back to retail.
This campaign is up front about its intention and aims to ensure a steady supply of used FFXIII copies.

Good luck beating any final fantasy game in a week

You can beat older ones like in a week easily, but I don't expect 13 to be so shallow. I'd imagine you're going to have a lot of trial and error anyway as it's said to be the hardest FF.

anyone can fly threw a FF game but trying to do side quest and fighting special bosses to get good loot for euip that something. will see what FFXIII has in store ^_^

Well, besides the main story. You also add in mini-game quests. It'll be more than a week's skirmish at best perhaps months. Then there're those harsh times when you're at a dead end and are confronted with a harsh boss.

It happened with Remnant, It no doubt can also happen here as well.

also the games difficulty AI remember if you get 5 stars the game gets harder so if you wanna beat the game within a week you need to like bullshit battles and get one star in each battle to make it easier to breeze by.

Also, with games like these. Gamers would no doubt be wanting to play the game again and enjoy as if they played it for the first time. Well, I would anyways lol.

This, basically. Without the sidequests and ultimate weapons and such, any FF can be beaten in a few days if you run through it.

@OP, if they allow rentals abroad, it may just be a good way to play through the jap version before the US for 5 bucks and never send it back :awesome:

LOL, if gameshark existed for the ps3 maybe, but honestly, I don't see anyone beating this in less than a couple of weeks to a month.

FFXII wasn't exactly the 'beat it in a week' kinda game, but there were videos online of people finishing the game within days of its release, and the same will be true of FFXIII too.

That's lame. Who wants to rent a game and have to feel like they are rushed to beat it?

Someone who's not sure whether they want to buy it or not, usually.

I see your point but I disagree.
You probably is the kind of gamer that wants to enjoy the game, especially an RPG like FF (like myself) but just to say that some people given the needed amount of time can do it.

My cousin beat Dragon Quest VIII with all sidequests done in a week. No more, no less. DQ8 is bigger than any FF I've played, so how do you explain that ?
First he played for about 10 to 12 hours a day. It was holidays, so he had a lot of spare time (see the coincidence) and he younger, which states that he had only school to worry about, and being on vacation was pretty much a free pass to dedicate an entire week to the game.

My point, it can be done. Can I do it ? Hell no.

Anyway, I wish these people wanting to rent FF in Japan the best of lucks. When I went there I felt the Japanese is kinda of ripped of in almost anything regarding media (music, games, anime, etc)
They should at least be able to rent the game. If the game were cheap there (which they aren't) it would at least be an argument. But come on, 89 dollars for a game is pretty damn expensive.

There are definitely some dedicated gamers in Japan who can beat games like FF13 in like 3 days or less, but then they are usually not the type of gamers who would rent the game just for the sake of beating it fast.

Well, you're right about 89dollars being quite expensive for a game, but here in Germany new Xbox360/PS3 games usually cost like 70€ which is like 102$... :'(

@Topic
Think I could managed to finish the game within that time, but I won't do it because I don't like rushing through Roleplaying games anyway. Especially Roleplaying games are that kind of games which go indeep, so there is no need to rush, it would only ruin a good story and the great atmosphere.

And for real, what's the point in rushing through a game within a few days, your waited several years for?

Agree with everything.
No point in rushing such an amazing game just for the sake of beating it fast. If by accident I beat it fast, that's okay, but not on purpose.

And about the price, I feel your pain. I live in Brazil and new Xbox360/PS3 games also costs something like US$110. (R$220) Mostly because there's no official distribution for most games, so they have to be imported.
But to avoid that, I buy my games from eBay or Play-asia, which sometimes is still expensive, but much better than 110 dollars.

I feel bad not for me, because games have to be imported here, and since a lot of games are made in Japan, and even so, they make it so expensive, even for Japanese standards. But at least the consoles themselves are usually much cheaper there.

Well, I mean, it's a Final Fantasy game, innit? This isn't an MMO and it's certainly not going to be as expansive as, say, an Elder Scrolls game (I've been playing Oblivion for almost a year and I can count on one hand how many main quest missions I've completed). I expect the game will have plenty to do, but I'm worried it's going to be rather linear.

I'm hoping that Final Fantasy XIII can hit the balance just right, because it doesn't seem like any console RPG has gotten it quite right in this generation; either the games feel terribly linear (Eternal Sonata) or are open-ended to the point of stalling (Oblivion). If past Final Fantasy titles are anything to go by, I don't see why a dedicated player who has nothing better to do can't beat this game in a week. Ten hours a day would be a good 70 hour playthrough -- and you know there are people out there who are going to put that kind of time into the game. It's inevitable.

I beat Resident Evil 5 in a couple of days, but it was totally worth it. The game has a lot of replay value for me, so I went back and unlocked everything, and can no book through the game in an afternoon. I beat a quick path through inFAMOUS, too. Good times.

But I agree about RPGs. They're the kind of games that you like to enjoy over the course of a couple of weeks or even a couple of months. I took my sweet time playing through Persona 3 and Persona 4, and I'm really taking my time through Fallout 3 and Oblivion.

I don't know about 10 hours every day for a week. I'll put well over 70 hours into FF13 overall, but I don't think anyone has time to spend that kind of effort on it in a week. 10 hours a day with 8 hours sleep leaves 6 hours for everything else. O____o

You'd be surprised what people can do when they really, really want it. (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/aion-level-cap-reached-in-17-days)

10 hours a day is like nothing. :wtf:

Yeah, some people are really hardcore like that. I know people who play Aion and World of Warcraft for 12 and 13 hours a day. And somehow they still manage to hold down jobs.

Bizarrely, some games encourage this sort of thing. Disgaea 3 awards the player a trophy for playing over 10 hours without quitting. I had to leave my PS3 on overnight while I was in bed to get that one, because I simply couldn't play for 10 hours.

The longest I've ever sat down to play a game was for FFX; 6hrs. I don't think I could make it to 10 hrs. straight without getting bored, hungry, or anxious. Not to mention bathroom breaks...

I usually get bored after 3 hours but with some extreme exceptions I can play like 10 hours or more.
Some examples: MGS2 (beat in one sitting), KOTOR (8 - 10 hours straight during 3 days), FF Tactics & FFX maybe more than kotor.

These were the only ones. But even liking them so much, I normally feel a little headache after 5 hours, so besides being bored, I avoid doing it often.

See this is why I don't get renting or some other shit. But hey, I'm incredibly picky and I normally don't invest in a game unless I know for sure that I'm going to like it. Point is I like the freedom of being able to pick up a game and play it whenever I want without worrying about a deadline. There is more to a game than just beating it.

10 Hours a day is really easy if the game is fairly good. With FFVII, FFIX, FFX, and FFXII.. they were that addicting. I think I sat down about 6 hours straight fighting Yiazmat.

I mean you're going to have to get up and eat every other hour or so and wash yo ass but yeah. xD

I couldn't agree more.
I rented Uncharted, loved it, but as it was rented I had to rush my way through the game because I didn't want to pay for another day of rent.
But latter my cousin bought and lend me the game, which I could enjoy a lot more.
That's is doable with a 8-12 hours single player game. But not with a 40+ RPG.

When playing FFX I can say I forgot to eat haha. My cousin was in my house, and he was saying about midday "How about we have luch?" I said "sure, just let me save"

After sometime he goes again with the same thing, so I look at the clock and it's already 4 pm! Talk about time flying!
