It seems like everyone in our main party (five members) has someone precious to fight for. Each member has a family member/ friend / lover so far!
Lightning >> her sister Serah
Snow >> his fiancee Serah
Sazh >> his son Dajh
Hope >> his mother/ his father?
Vanille >> ????????????????????? :|
Except for Vanille, right?
We've heard that Vanille has a very dramatic/tragic past, and she seems to be carrying a big burden/hurt deeply inside!
I wonder if she has lost her entire family or someone precious to her :'(.
I think Vanille is the most mysterious character so far in our main party!
*Who do you thing her precious person?
1) Father/Mother?
2) Sister/brother?
3) A dear friend?
4) A cousin?
5) A Boyfriend/lover/fiance?
* Do you think this person died or still alive?
* Do you think he will be a L'Cie?
1) Cursed by Pulse Fal'Cie?
2) Cursed by Cocoon Fal'Cie?
* Is this person working for the government?
* Is this person a playable character? If yes
What kind of weapon/summone this person will have in the future?
* Is this person will take a role of a villain/ally or both?
Those questions only to guide you!
Feel free to put any of your theories/speculations/guesses :)!

A long time ago they said Vanille had gone through a lot of rough times. This also implies her description:

I think her parents were killed and so on...

Vanille is an unwed teenage mother and her child was slaughtered by the government as the spawn of an infected person, so she fights to avenge her illegitimate son/daughters life.

Read on a bio of her before that she is of some other race. Looks like a hume but is not.

I think Vanille's a dear friend of the tatooed woman, just because she's a Cocoon Fal'Cie working for the govt., and Vanille's a Pulse Fal'Cie fighting against the govt.
It just seems kind of fitting that Vanille would have to fight against her dearest friend.
At least until new info/the game comes out and proves me wrong

I have a feeling Vanille will be important to the game, and that she's not just some Penelo clone.
Or at least, that is what I hope. She is the narrator at times, that alludes to her importance. I hope Vanille isn't just some stock cute girl character (Eiko, Rikku, Penelo) who's along for the ride.
More importantly, what relationship does Vanille have to Jihl? What was she doing in the scene where Jihl says "perfect tool?" Was she referring to Vanille who is a spy for Jihl?
Even though the following image may be fake, if you look at Vanille, her arrows are pointing to Hope, Serah, and Sazh. She is clearly comforting Hope as seen in a screenshot. She is friends with Serah, that much is certain. Does she have romantic feelings for Sazh?
The stock cute girl character gets together with the token black comedian character? Is Square Enix bold enough to do this? Sazh and Hope's arrows are pointing back towards Vanille. But Lightning is not. So Hope looks to Vanille as a nurturing figure, and Sazh looks to Vanille as a....love interest?

I think someone on Lightning's team may have unconsiously did something bad to her (or may have hurt or killed someone close to her). I remember reading the description of the lastest unseen trailer, that Vanille fell to her knees in front of Serah, apologizing to her. I think she is working as a double agent for The Sanctum (Cocoon's Army) in order to avenge herself or her loved one. I also think she was somehow involved in Serah's capture, crystallization, whatever. I don't know why...she just doesn't seem all that innocent to me. It may not be in her nature to exact revenge, thus her apology to Serah.
Well that's my theory so far...:P
My guess is that Vanille is working for Jihl, if she is, i don't think she WANTS to, but feels she HAS to, to protect someone/herself, maybe Jihl is holding someone she loves captive? or threatening, perhaps the new "Wild" woman in the new trailer? maybe shes being forced to help them as well @o@
she could be a friend, relative, lover, or maybe someone from her village~?
or
maybe her "Precious Person" will be Hope? we already know she cares alot for him/comforts him~ but that'd be kind of similar to Penelo and Larsa, so i doubt it
i don't know ;A;

I think Vanille was a prostitute. Now, she become a l'Cie and wants to continue her job in Pulse. Instead of Cocoon.

Vanille looks like she's part of some Pulse rebel group trying to protect nature.

That's possible, given the high tech nature of the world there's bound to be some kind of Greenpeace type group active somewhere, like Avalanche in FFVII. It's entirely possibly Vanille is a member if such an organisation exists in this game. It's still fairly doubtful thoughh, considering there are already plenty of established groups in the game and the addition of more could serve only to complicate tings. >.>

She is a hippie. ^_^
Shouting 'Flower Power!' she runs into the castle (scene with jihl) and gives each person a joint. (u know what i mean ?)
It's her limit break. :aldo:

Even though this isn't what the game is about, I actually like when it's nature versus high tech forces. It proves to be some differences between the two and allows for a pretty deep story for a change. Which is something I hope to do one day.
Vanille could very well be part of some tribe that was raided by PSICOM during their search for a Crystal? Well, that is just something based on an idea of mine.

I don't know. None of us guessed that Serah would be Lightning's sister and engaged to Snow.
I'm kinda thinking that Vanille maybe that bubbly girl we saw in that footage where she was attacked by that dragon. And then after the whole gang gets cursed, she's not so bubbly anymore.
So when we see her all bubbly, there is no hint of that heavy burden she caries. After being cursed, it starts to come out of her.
We know nothing about her besides being bubbly and cute and that she has some some heavy burden, so it can be anything.
Her connection with Jhil? Who knows. Maybe she has something to do with the heavy burden she carries. All we know is that Vanille and Sazh get captured in that same area where she's walking along side that coffin thing in the prison suit she wears. What becomes of Sazh?

Hard to guess @_@" Like...
-Sazh points a gun to her. Why? Does she did something to Dajh? It's because she is a traitor and he know? Opposite missions?
-She have a dark past. So, what is it? Her family got killed? SHE killed someone? Was she captured? Used? Experienced?
-She conforts Hope. Again, why? Does she know him? It's because she wants to use him? Just because she's a cute person that can't see others bad? Because the same happened to her before and she don't want anyone to suffer the same way?
I don't know what to think O_o

Where do you get Sazh pointing a gun at Vanille from? I saw that trailer / screenshot as well. Vanille is kneeling in a grassy area. Sazh is behind her, says something like "this'll wind up with us all dead anyways," and he cocks his gun, but he doesn't point his gun at Vanille's back, if I seen it correctly.

Actually it was seen in the E3 09 Trailer (English).

He's not pointing his gun at her in the E3 trailer. It's exactly what 2012 said. He's raising his gun but not pointing it at her.
What was seen in the TGS trailer could be the same area, but we'll find out in a hour.

I'm not refering to any of that, I'm pointing out the trailer it appeared in.
Actually, in the new trailer we now notice Sazh was pointing the gun at her, but for what? We need some translation!

In that trailer he's pointing the gun at her yelling at her because she doesn't care if he shoots her... If I remember correctly he's yelling something about how she won't just be forgiven if she dies... this make me think that he has found out something about her (Like her being a spy or whatnot maybe having something to do with what happens to his son) *shrugs*
You can watch a subbed version of that trailer here http://www.gametrailers.com/video/tgs-09-final-fantasy/56990

I Agree with all those people who think she's some sort of spy working for Jihl.
Not sure whether it's because she wants (or wanted) to or because she has to (due to a loved one being captured or something) but it seems the most likely, according to trailer footage.
When Jihl says 'perfect tool', if she is referring to Vanille, which she might be than that is a pretty straight forward clue.
Then when she says sorry to Serah, it's probably because she feels like she's done wrong towards Serah or something; also fitting the 'spy' theory.
And maybe when Sazh is pointing his gun to her; maybe that is also a clue to her being a spy?
Oh and here's a translation to the scene where Sazh is pointing his gun at Vanille;
Vanille:
So shoot.
Sazh:
Shut the hell up! You wanna die and call it a day? You think they’ll absolve you if you die?!
Vanille:
Then what are we supposed to do?!
Sazh:
Figure something out!
The translation is from http://the13thcrystal.wordpress.com/

I haven't heard this mentioned anywhere, but the place where Jihl is talking to Sahz about his son and the place where Sahz points his gun at Vanille look like the same place. I'm guessing the gun-pointing scene is soon after or right before the Jihl scene.

Another thought, Vanille wants Sazh to shoot at, but he won't do it because he thinks it wouldn't help array Cocoon..?
Vanille probably betrayed Sazh and so she feels shitty and wants to die.
