Phew, I sure am glad that I don't care at all, or else this news would've been... well uninteresting.

Watch the trailers. Compare them. Which do you like better?

Well there you go.

This doesn't seem like news.

oh Shi~

Maaya Sakamoto.She's brilliant.

She is brilliant. My only complaint is that she used almost the same voice for Lightning as she did for Ryougi Shiki from Kara no Kyoukai, so I keep picturing Shiki every time Lightning talks. Good thing Lightning doesn't wear kimonos...

From what I heard in the trailer they released, I did like the English voice acting though, so I think it'll be good, but Japanese voice acting is almost always better, and most likely will be this time around too.

Better of not, I don't care if I can't understand a fucking word they're saying. Subtitles are awfully distracting.

Besides, if they're reanimating the lips it takes away the hardest part of the dubbing, so hopefully the speech'll make sense and won't have unnatural gaps and stuff.

Falsate
Sep 25 2009, 01:57 AM
Does it matter about the voice? Most people who complain about the English voice acting can't even understand the Japanese voice themselves (and that is the hardcore "I wish I was Japanese" american anime freaks).

Jeez..get over it.

Bingo. The fact that they're redoing facial animation and lip syncing the characters so that it actually looks like they're saying the word should make things a lot better. Until then, we should wait until we get some footage of this.

I'm sure the English voice acting will be good enough to really enjoy the game. Even if it doesn't end up being top notch, it probably won't take away from the game at all. And just because the people doing the English voices don't have a huge track record, if anything at all, doesn't mean they will do a bad job.

The game, English or not, will be amazing.

They make it sound like the english VA's did an tremendously horrible job. Sure, they're not gonna be fantastic, but that won't take away the most dynamic aspects of the game; story & gameplay.

If the VA's are so awful, don't play the NA version, plain & simple.

Why can't people just accept that Final Fantasy XIII isn't going to come with Japanese voice acting and just shut the fuck up?
Also it's up to the person playing whether they like the Japanese or English voice acting better. And not
everyone likes to read the screen while they're playing the game when they can just listen instead.
Jesus christ, people. Get over it already.

I'm confused as to how an opinion is news.

But while I'm here - Attention all weeaboos! Get fucked in the arse, no one cares about your beloved Nippon and your OHAYOU GOHZAYMASSSSSUUUUUU EHEHEH RAITONINGUUUUSAMAAAAAAA. TOTEMO KAWAII DESOONAY language track. Learn the fucking language like the rest of us.

I fail to see how this constitutes as news. Half the people who bitch about English voice overs barely understand moonspeak of Japanland anyway.

Sep 25 2009, 04:05 AM
They messed up. Maaya Sakamoto doesn't do Kairi's voice, it's Risa Uchida. Retards. I haven't even heard much of the japanese voices but Sakamoto-san voices Aerith, whom I love and Yukari Fukui voices Tina/Terra in Dissidia(even though she did a bad job), whom I also love. That Australian lady annoys me. All my friends think the Australian accent is cool, but I don't think so. So Georgia will irritate me all through the game. It sucks how PS3 owners will have to suffer along with the 360 owners because it's the 360's fault the japanese voices won't be in the game.

As a person Maaya Sakamoto is better than her english counterpart. It's like this:

(hypothetically)
Would you want Brendan lee or Quack Quack Junpei Len Sur to act as Bruce Lee?
pple generally want more notable people to perform (or w/e) since it adds the notoriety and shows how special the project is.

I don't think anybody said they wanted a japanese VA.........i just don't like that australian-VA and i've liked what maaya brought to the table on numerous projects.

EDIT: it's not even Maaya...........

I don't see why people are making such a big deal over the chick's australian accent...or that there isn't a Japanese language track. There wasn't a Japanese track for FFX, and in all the international versions square enix releases in japan, they use the english voices. I understand that the PS3 could hypothetically fit the japanese language track, but SE is not thinking about indulging otakus all day.

With anime, I usually do prefer the original japanese voices because...the english voices tend to be awful [with a few exceptions], but in most...non tri-ace video games, they do a pretty good or at least decent job with the voices.

FFXII was full of accents and the voices were amazing. They have to make certain calls when translating the game into a different language and I can see why they would make the tribal chick have an australian accent...it might fit with the world of pulse from an english stand point...also all the other character voices I've heard so far sound pretty solid.
Just because the person isn't a famous voice actor doesn't mean they won't do a good job. I didn't recognize anyone from XII as having a big name in the video game/anime voice over community, a lot of there were just ACTORS...which is good enough so yeah.

either way, you'll have to deal it with so shut up, lol.

Except Vanille (which I think is still not too bad) I dont see all this lack of awesomeness in the english team. I mean, Snow Lightning and Sazh are just fine, Hope's not that bad.

Though this "official" japan > english is just a matter of tastes really :origa:

Who r u talking to?
Let's clarify here:

None of us said we wanted Japanese sub and VA

None of us said we thought popular stars were better VAs

No one said the english VAs were bad

No one said anything bad about the australian chicks accent

No one is debating anything for someone to need to keep their mouth shut

Who's a otaku?Just b/c some of us know some cartoons, show, music etc from a different country doesn't mean we r otaku.Have you actually met one?

They are clearly pointing out what was said in the article.
Since all the article did was name drop the Japanese voice actors credibility.
I find the whole article wasteful, lame, whambulance worthy, and stupid.
And the fact that they titled it "It's Official!" Makes me want to punch someones

What is wrong with you people. It's just voice acting. Why worry about what the voices are gonna sound like when it's like one of the least important aspects of a game, especially a final fantasy game. Gameplay, story and graphics are way more important. The best FFs didn't even have voices in them ( talking about 7 and 8).

No they're about equal, and it varies with each game. I'm sure there are some japanese voiced games with horrible voice actors, and some with amazing voice actors.

Just like games in English. Some of the voice actors are bad, and some of them are good.

What is this shit? :wtf:

You know... Japanese is cool, I like Japanese. I also like Japan. You know what I like even more than Japanese? English. I really like being able to understand everything that I'm hearing. Sure, after I've heard it in English for a while giving it a listen in another language is always fun, and Japanese does rock. But I wouldn't prefer Japanese just because the English voices "sound horrible" or some shit like that. In my opinion they don't. I'm really getting sick of people ranting and ranting about how "English sucks and Japanese is better" and "please give us Japanese voice overs". Hell I do sometimes experience times where I think a particular phrase could have been voiced with a little more emotion or a particular person's voice doesn't really fit but shit I get over it pretty quick as they aren't real people after all they don't have "real" voices.

Example: I hated Ashe's voice actress, but hey, to me, that's what Ashe sounds like I guess, nothing you can do about it.

Maybe I need to chill out about this a little but I think the whole "HELL NO ENGLISH VO" people need to chill out too.

caller_of_BS
Sep 25 2009, 11:28 PM
Why is everyone hating on Vanilles vo :| It makes her character more interesting and defined.

Would people prefer the generic vo's from Star Ocean or Eternal Sonata? I think it's good that squeenix are using a variety of accents. Getting sick of the game standards 'YOU MUST HAVE AMERICAN VOICES'. It annoys me almost as much as weeaboos who think the native japanese is superior, always. The japanese seems kind of weak compared to the english, at least from what we've seen so far.

Everybody really needs to chill out and get their head out of Japan's ass. I'm as weeabo as the next guy, I love my wall scrolls, my little Japanese bonsai tree, my chopsticks and my sake set.... but when I'm playing a game or watching an anime, I'm always looking for the English Dub. I can't stand having to read to understand what's going on, because you miss half of what's always going on... especially in the action scenes..

Also all this hate on Vanille's VA... how can you hate on someone who has no notable references or works for credibility? If anything to bring in a no name is better, because there's none of this expectations bollocks from famous people to be so superly duperly ossum. To bring in a no name random adds spice to the table and really makes the game fresh with new meat.

I'll be honest and admit I'm never too enthralled with English VA or Dubs. But damnit I don't go around bellyaching over it.

Yes yes yes yes and YES. Honestly, VAs who have no notable references aren't always as "omfg terrrrrrrrible!!!!111one" as some people might think. Even though usually the ones who do have those references can end up being great, they can also be pretty bad in a certain role too.

For example, in FFXII you had Gideon Emery (TONS of credibility from primetime television) who played Balthier, and I'll admit, his voice was absolute sex.

On the other hand, you have Tasia Valenza. She's had some pretty big roles, from Sniper Wolf in MGS to Poison Ivy in Arkham Asylum, but she absolutely sucked shit as Ultimecia in Dissidia (imho).

Credibility doesn't make or break the work being done, it's up to the directors and the scene at hand to direct how the VAs are supposed to try to pull it off. If said director wants it done a certain way, that's how it has to be done. Besides, it isn't like they just do one take and then use that as the vocal soundtrack for the game.
