View Full Version : Who's hoping this game won't be released outside of Japan

Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII was not released outside of Japan, so I'm thinking realistically speaking, Agito probably won't be either. Despite being a fan of the series, you have to look at it from a sales standpoint. Most people would prefer FF7 to be released on UMD (or possibly in a set of 4 or 5 UMDs) rather than get a spin-off / side-story like Agito.
Also it seems to me like Agito is heavy multiplayer, and even among the school-aged children, few are those who have friends with PSPs, who also like Final Fantasy, who also gets the game, and has an opportunity to play multiplayer together. Few, I say. Neal is an exception yes, damn him with his big screen LCD monitor! I'm jealous! :nag:
If Agito is heavy on the multiplayer, or is like a mini-MMO for the PSP, with limited single-player content, as I think it is, it will not do well in sales, because the only way for that to work would be to get a group of five middle-schoolers, with each one of the five having a PSP, being a final fantasy fan, and getting Agito. The chances of that happening are low. Not everyone likes Final Fantasy, and middle schoolers don't have that much money usually.
Despite Dissidia being a fighting game (fighting games are best played competitively with two human players), it has an awesome story mode, it's not just a Mortal Kombat clone, so there is a single-player element to it. If you have no access to multi-player, you're not missing out on a whole lot. The same probably cannot be said for Agito. I mean come on, TWELVE characters? That screams MMO or mini-MMO to me. It's probably similar to Phantasy Star Portable, with a craptacular single player campaign, and most of the content is better if you have friends to play it online with.

Why in the world would you be against a game's release? Sure realistically speaking certain games have not been released due to fears that the sales would be less than satisfactory but there are plenty of people who would want some of those games to be released anyway. Hoping a game won't be released just because sales might be bad :wtf:

Well to be honest, I'm getting too old to playing these "video games" as you call them, and a part of me hopes Final Fantasy XIII and Versus are the last single-player games that will be released, and that they will stop making them after Final Fantasy XIV. I mean come on, will they keep making these until the end of time? As long as they keep making these, I am compelled to keep buying them because I got hooked on FF7 when I was in 8th grade AND I MUST OWN THE ENTIRE SET!
Granted, they're a company out to make money, and they will keep milking their cash cow long after the cow is dead, but seriously, what if they started a new series of games with different mechanics (i.e. non-ATB)? There's such a thing as going out with subtlety. Stargate SG-1 went on for 10 years, and then was cancelled without a proper ending, so they had to make two direct-to-DVD movies. Stargate SG-1 just faded away instead of ending gracefully.
Ending gracefully is my opinion, more humble than the risk of fading away. If Final Fantasy XIII were the last one, me and other old people would reminsce and be like, yup, those were the good old days. That was a mighty fine series of games Square Enix made.
And for many people, Final Fantasy XIII might be their first Final Fantasy. Then they wanna go back and play FF1, they'll be all like, WTF is this shit? The original FF1 on the NES (which I have played through emulation) is totally a turn off to me, because your guys attacks don't carry over once the enemy is dead. The only way to strategically attack is to get a guide that tells you what HP the enemy has, and figure out how much damage your guys will do, and constantly do math in your head to make sure your attacks aren't wasted. Granted, I prefer thinking to button mashing or holding down the A button to win, but to a point. I expect some things we take for granted, like automatically targeting the next enemy after you have killed one.
Future generations of children will probably not enjoy the oldskool FFs because they're 2D, because in the future we will have virtual reality game consoles, in HD, which won't even require televisions or HD monitors. You'll have virtual reality headsets cheap and affordable for the average person, and games that download at broadband speeds. I suspect in the future everything will become broadband direct to download and virtual reality, to save costs on manufacturing discs and shit.
I can probably guarantee you that Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo are heavily researching this Virtual Reality shit, because the first person to come up with it will pwn everyone.

You have a masive retard or something?
"Most people would prefer FF7 to be released on UMD (or possibly in a set of 4 or 5 UMDs) rather than get a spin-off / side-story like Agito. "
FFVII would even take one UMD, the games is 1.32 gb on its on, it would be stupid to remake it for psp also :wtf:
"Also it seems to me like Agito is heavy multiplayer"
Seems, there´s notting that says, you´re going to need a multiplayer to enjoy the game, much less on a postable console, if they want an MMO there´s FF XIV.
"few are those who have friends with PSPs, who also like Final Fantasy, who also gets the game, and has an opportunity to play multiplayer together. Few, I say. Neal is an exception yes, damn him with his big screen LCD monitor! I'm jealous!"
You do know that is they input a multiplayer, there you can use AD-HOC party with your ps3 right? :wtf: (this of course is thinking that you own a ps3... )
"If Agito is heavy on the multiplayer, or is like a mini-MMO for the PSP, with limited single-player content"
There´s something like that already, its called monster hunter. I want a FF for its single player story, not a multiplayer one.
Everything else.....just stupid

So your saying they should stop because you're getting older? It's an oldy but a goody: The world doesn't revolve around you. You said it yourself if XIII is in fact someone's first FF then yes they might want to play the older games but they would also crave newer entries in the series. Well OK if this was my first FF then that's how I would feel. Personally I enjoy the older FF's because of the story and the history of the series. There really is no good reason for the series to end other than the occasionally hater wanting it to because "It's gone on for too long" or some bullshit. If you are sick of the series, don't buy later entries, forget about it, and stop complaining.

even if there is a multiplayer aspect to it, I'm sure they've designed it with a single player campaign in mind so I doubt it will affect the game too much. Also, it would be incredibly STUPID of Square to pimp out this "Fabula Nova Crystallis" thing and then not release one of the games for it.
They're going to release it in the U.S. It's not really a question of whether they will or won't. like seriously.

What´s the point of talking shit about FF1? Why did you write so useless things about virtual reality? Your mind is not organized.
Final Fantasy Agito XIII was presented as a multiplayer mobile phone game but that´s what SE said back in 2006.
We know that they made very changes in Agito, they changed it for PSP and im sure the final game ll be very diferent from the original idea.
In fact we dont know anything about Agito, so its useless to argue about this.

I'm not a person to post alot, but after reading this, I feel that I have the obligation(as a FF Fan) to do so..
What on earth are you thinking? O.o
Ending one of the best, if not the best game series of all times, that's just stupid, SE makes alot of money with FF and as long as people keep buying them, SE WILL continue to make them, I dont see how on earth you'd even consider the ending of the series with XIV
I myself also love all FFs I've played (all of them except XI) and even thought I love say FFI, I know that in the future most people wont because it will be totally shit compared to the future games(it is already now), BUT I know that other people will still play it for the story even in the Year 2500(if the Earth survives till there..)
The thing that made me lol the most was when you said you were getting too old, I mean WTF, we dont care about it, nor does SE, there are more people around the world and they wont stop making FF just because you're getting too old, if you dont want to play FF anymore, just dont buy them ffs
Oh and when you leave, take your stupidity with you, we already have enough around here =)

I didn't understand your argument, but i don't mind if Japan doesn't release a game so long as somehow i have access to it . I remember when Kingdom Hearts II: final mix came out only in Japan. My friends and I were super pissed. Months later though, my brother somehow managed to get a copy of it and modded the PS2 to play the Japanese game. Being able to fight the Organization XIII when I knew that none of my friends would ever play it was an exhilarating feeling. I had huge bragging right lol. It was fun.

i'm not gonna bother reading all the replies i really just needed to say how stupid i think this thread is and how the comparison with before crisis is simply moronic.
before crisis was a cellphone game, japanese cellphones can handle better games than most of ours.
agito is a psp game, just like crisis core was released worldwide u can bet ur simpleminded little brain that it will b released worldwide eventually.

Actually it's not a game I'm looking forward to, but I don't mind if they release it outside Japan. I don't think SE guys are not that analphabet to stop winning money from that one, even if it's a loss. (?) Also, as the girl in the upper post said, there can't be a comparison between those two...Cellphone = PSP...Don't really think so.?
