They probably needed to raise money.

I just love how long-time Sony players such as myself have basically grown up along side Naughty Dog. Final Fantasy gives you this "progression" a bit, but no where near as dramatically. I played through all the original 3 Crash games and CTR, watching the series go from the joke that was Crash 1 to the fun game Crash 2 to Crash 3 and the amazingly fun game that was CTR. I played through Jak and Daxter and marveled at the platforming fun and graphics, and then was shocked with they went "hardcore" or whatever for Jak 2 but loved the story, and cheered when they seemed to find a happy medium between the two games for Jak 3. Likewise, I still cite Uncharted as one of the main reasons to buy a PS3. It was the first PS3 game I played, the first game I popped in when I upgraded to my HDTV, and I CANNOT wait for the sequel. Amazing.

I'd totally have to agree with you. The very first PS1 game I played was the original Crash Bandicoot and I loved it. The sequels were awesome as well and I remember searching through game magazines (when they existed) for screenshots and a small blurb on what was going to be in the new game. I wasn't a huge fan of Jak and Daxter although I did play the third game which was pretty fun (except for how he was a prick the whole time, that eventually got on my nerves).

But where it really got me was Uncharted. That game was IMO what Indy 4 should have been and that's what I relate the game most to. I love the Indy series and to see that you can make a movie like that into such a successful game is amazing. I've already pre-ordered the second game and will definitely be participating in the Beta. Once I get my PS3 Slim I'll put my PSN ID in my profile, hit me up if any of you want to play a game, I'd love to.

I'm hoping the pre-order beta will transition openly into the public one, I don't want to have to re-earn money and stats and all that. Does anyone know by the way if once you get the real game if you have to start over or not?

Yeah we should definitely get some stuff together, I love deathmatches and plunder, so much fun. Is there a place we could set up a topic for it?

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Every time I get into a match the game stops detecting my controller. I pretty much can't play >_>

However, I heard a patch is on its way.

The game itself looks absolutely amazing -- I can start my own matches and I've been messing around in Machinima mode. I'm particuarly impressed with the animation and water, actually. xD
My brother managed to get into a match (and play) last night and there was like a pack of Nates just running around killing each other. :wtf:

I would like to know what you consider good game characters then.

The characters were just cardboard cutouts from adventure movies. Drake, *insert smart arse quip relating to the amount of enemies or the environment*, Drakes Partner, 'Oh boy kiddo! YOU GO ON AHEAD, LEAVE ME! Uh oh, this looks like trouble! Wow boy, you just might be correct!'.

The only mildly interesting character was the reporter, but they had to ham her up by hinting at some sort of affection towards Drake. Predictable.

The real characters were in the animations, not so much the design or dialogue.

As for Gears of War? I found it dull as well. Duck for cover, wipe out area, wait for more enemies, repeat. All the while using generic FPS weaponry, against crappy, uninspired enemy designs and in crappy, uninspired environments.

Both fun games. These views are just from my perspective and tastes though. If you think otherwise, good for you. I read a great few reviews before buying the first Uncharted, and everyone was raving on about the amazing story and amazing characters. I was disappointed when I received neither.

You know, if you want, you can be a dick and complain about not having characters that break the "stereotypical" mold, or you can just play the game and enjoy the polish and obvious effort put into it.

You see, games have been here for SO LONG I doubt that there is any character that will ever not be stereotypical in some form or fashion. The thing that makes characters and games good is the perfection of these molds.

Look at things like Uncharted and COD4. Sure, Uncharted has the typical action movie characters and plot, but, the voice acting was spot on and the animations and graphics just made the game amazing; not to mention, like you said, the thing was fun to play.

COD4 is not really that special in many ways either. It was typical FPS stuff. Get objective, do objective, and finish. But the modern aspect, and the unusual actual decent / good or amazing (depends on your POV) story made it great. Don't even get me started on how addicting and amazing the multiplayer was.

So, would you kindly, gtfo good sir, until you can find me a game that truly has characters that don't fit any mold EVER MADE BEFORE.

And btw, I think Uncharted 2 looks amazing. And, it got a 9.5/10 from IGN, a perfect score from PSM, and one other super high score (forgot from where). :aldo:

Well, I've never played Uncharted, never even seen it played (except the E3 demo of 2).

It looked pretty damn good and personally from reading the above, I like the cheesy action movie hero characters. Especially if that's what they intended to make. Perhaps when I pick up a PS3 sometime I should buy these games. Although I'm not really sure what it's like, Tomb Raider?

Sadistic
Sep 19 2009, 10:50 AM
^It's a lot like Tomb Raider, but a bit better imo. Hell, some have gone so far as to give the first game the moniker 'Dude Raider'. They're very good games, with gorgeously realistic visuals and engaging gameplay. I found the first one quite short, but that's just my opinion. It was around 9-12 hours.

I never said it was a shit game and that people shouldn't play it, just that it's story and character's were ridiculously overrated. and that the gameplay became repetitive very quickly.

IGN REVIEW http://ps3.ign.com/articles/102/1026373p1.html

A month before the release of the actual game... $$$$$$ from Naughty Dog. Not saying it isn't a 9/10 game, but 'reviewing' a game a month in advance is just a ploy in creating hype. And it would appear that it hasn't changed much, besides the graphics and some varying of level designs, from the first. The same, boring, easy, linear you MUST jump-from-this-obvious-platform-to-advance-because-there-isn't-anywhere-else to-go-in-this-room gameplay is still around.

Not to mention the 'pew-pew-pew' fights where enemies just continuously flood the same room for a couple of minutes. Oh, and it's still stupidly short at an average of 10 hours. And there are LESS puzzles then in the first game? The first game had what... 3? And they were mainly switch or order of switch 'puzzles'.

They didn't say anything about quick time events, so maybe they've improved on that, at least :wtf:

Your basically describing ever other third person shooter.
But I guess they are better right? :wtf:

It has so much to offer and your being stupidly incompetent, I guess you enjoy more of your generic games with little plot and character development.

Stop trying to justify why this game is terrible because it isn't; the gameplay is broken down into different and exciting sections, the fighting system has been seriously tweaked and altered, the characters are developed well and have brilliant actors that portray them and graphically it's one of the best looking games on the console.

Please just go away, you can't give any justified reason other than your own opinion into why this game is terrible.
And I'm fairly sure everybody who's commented on this thread so far doesn't really agree with you.

Awww is someone ragging on something you like :'( ?

Of course it's my opinion. I'm just giving a different one, otherwise I would just be another person in here, preaching to the converted.

The reason why I don't like the exploration is because it is 'automatic'. It literally requires no skill at all, apart from moving your joystick in the only direction drake will reach for, and pressing a button. Then doing the exact same thing for the next ledge. You have to be really retarded to die in these sections, especially since the grabby on things are so obviously positioned, and just by moving your joystick around, he will reach out for things that can be automatically grabbed onto.

The original Tomb Raider required far more skill and planning then this. Not to mention the puzzles and level designs were actually clever, and not just 'enter room, kill bad guys, jump onto the only ledge in room, swing into the next room, occasionally tap triangle to open the only door in the room, progress to next room, repeat. For an exploration/adventure game, there was really very little ability to 'explore'.

I never said it was a shit game, just that it was overrated, and the new one is probably being overhyped too, given all the early high scored 'official' reviews. I'm probably just being cynical because I don't want my expectations to be so high that I end up disappointed like the first one.

You can't really have a awesome, free roam dowhateveryouwant platforming game if you want a good story. I am assuming thats what your getting at, because, as far as I know, pretty much every single platforming game known to man is like what you described. Even AC. Hell, all you had to do in there was hold down a button and lean the analog stick. :wtf:

I don't really see the problem with the platforming being streamlined. It's still fun. In this gen., playing free roam game after free roam game gets old after a while, sometimes I just want a short, engaging, and streamlined game.

As for the review, places get copies of games pretty much soon or right after they go gold and hit manufacturing. It has nothing to do with money. If anything, it tells you that Naughty Dog is confident in its game, letting they release a review of their game that early (Unlike Kojima with the MGS4 reviews :aldo:).

And, I am pretty sure all you did was jump from point a to point b in Tomb Raider. Uncharted is varying the gameplay its own way, just like Tomb Raider did. Apparently you don't see the programming feat moving things through real time environments is (ala the train sequence, and some others).

I'm not even raging, I've yet to even insult you, nor even 'STARTED SHOUTING LEIK A MORON ON WAI DIS GAEM IS SO AWEZOMZ'
ELENA IS MAH WAIFU~~~

Your describing the gameplay as automatic and the part of only using a few amount of buttons as a means to get to places, or jump to ledges.
In which in short, is like any other game of it's genre.
Hell, even AC is alot more like what you described rather than Uncharted.

It's simple, as it was intended, in the first they focused on battle rather than exploration, and now they have switched the plates around.
And have you ever played this game on Crushing? It requires far more skill than in the generic Normal mode.
Of course it's still the same, but the battles are much more harder, making it alot more difficult to progress, but of course the puzzles where still linear and simple. As intended.

And of course it's being over-hyped, by the wrong faction, in short, the PS3 fanboy's.

But from what has been showed, it has been made into something better and the characters are alot more developed.
And so what if it has been reviewed a month prior?
It's one of Sony's now main franchises, they want as many buyers as possible.
It's a marketing ploy.

Thanks for the info, I used to enjoy tomb raider when I was a kid. Then it got all out of hand once they replaced her pyramids boobs with round ones.

Looking forward to playing this then once I buy a PS3, thanks for the rec.

What have you been reading? They said there will be MORE puzzles than the first.

I'm not saying that it should be a free roam game, just that the environmental aspects could have been less linear and obviously placed, and actually require some sort of skill or thinking to traverse :wtf:

The gunplay was good, but repetitive.

Yeah but if one of the games main selling points was the environmental stuff, and they got all the mechanics and animations and everything so perfectly, you would almost expect those sections to be more then just 'automatically jump on ledge, proceed'.

I played two online games today. I usually don't play online shooters, but this was very fun. I sucked badly the first time, got only one kill.

I started the sacond game as the worst player with 2k/10d. Managed to learn everything and ended the game with 9k/13d.

The single player campaign is the most important, but I can see myself playing some multiplayer games now and then.

I dunno if I want Uncharted 2... I've never been into/good at shooters, and I was getting brutally slaughtered on the online beta.

It seemed fun at first (even if I was getting killed twice as much as I killed others), but after a while I kept continuously being grouped with guys with 'mad skillz' and it became a desperate struggle to stay alive to the point where it *wasn't* fun whatsoever.

Other than that, I briefly played the first Uncharted in single player. It seemed alright, but I wouldn't say it was *amazing*. As for the graphics, sure, it looks nice, but I'd rather it looked a little worse and didn't suffer horrendous screen tearing.

As a dude who's a girl-gamer, I won't be buying either I don't think. Especially when games are £40 nowadays, it makes me very picky.

Indy 4 was nothing compared to the others, but come on! Stop putting Uncharted's story on a freakin pedestal D:

Indy 4 was awful. I liked it more than most people did but still, seeing that ship at the end and the line "space between spaces" killed it for me. Indy having a son kind of bothered me too and having Marian (sp?) come back seemed more like a ploy to bring old fans to see it, it didn't feel natural.

Uncharted may have cliches (many taken from Indy no doubt), but at least it was entertaining. I don't see how you think I'm putting it on a pedestal. I only said that it's a very Indiana Jones esque story and that it would have been much better suited than friggen aliens. If aliens ever appeared in Uncharted (aside from being some sort of crazy extra), I would lose all respect for the series.
