As expected. I'm still surprised people expected otherwise. Ars Technica called this and they have yet to be wrong. Just another tally mark for their insider(s).

And there's no way it would have PS2 backward compatibility. If/when they do add it, it will be purely software based so it doesn't add to the cost of the console. We've seen patents and job openings that prove they are working on it. (And obviously it will have PS1 b/c, all models do, otherwise PS1 classics wouldn't work.)

I can't believe people think it looks worse. It's matte. That automatically makes it superior to the current PS3 models.

I hate glossy finishes. Even the slightest amount of dirt/dust is visible from across the room, and when you wipe it off you risk leaving visible scratches. Matte doesn't have either of these issues.

The overall design is pretty much the same as the current PS3 though, just smaller... which looks pretty good. The only thing I don't like is the logo (edit: and the buttons).

Yeah, it really does looks uglier though i suppose the matte finish is good enough, but Sony has kinda failed in the UK 'cos Xbox 360 Elites still cost less ( but only by £20) - surely they could have matched the price?

The new firmware is cool. But holy crap, that thing is ugly..but at least it's cheaper/slimmer and plays the same games.

Ranting on the design:
Matte is alright, but it still could have looked better. The P-S-3 logo on it looks okay I guess, but really boring. What happened to the sexy-ass buttons?! The slimline, is just so.....black and white, and has no color or shine in it at all.

All in all, it looks like UTTER SHIT but as long as it fulfills its purpose to be slimmer and cheaper, it's agreeable IMO.

If they announced it months ago, any sensible person would have waited and there would be no PS3's being sold. Any company would wait until existing stock was almost sold out. In terms of the looks, the regular PS3 is nicely shaped. I mean the slim comes with a larger HDD. You could buy that special bundle which comes with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune along with a 160 GB HDD. Another option is to just update the HDD yourself.

I'm likely to stick with the old model because it seems more comfortable to me.

well getting a ps3 slim now is probably safer then a 360 but if you want to be cautious wait if you don't want to be cautious go for it, it probably is fine but you never do know
