View Full Version : FFXII: A Regional Affair?

Perhaps an unfounded inkling, but would anybody be prepared to agree with me when I say that I've concluded that Europeans seem to have a much greater level of appreciation for the various subtleties and grace notes in the plot of FFXII than that of the sentimentalism-oriented cultures of Japan and America? On Gamefaqs.com, the mostly-American user base seems not to know what they don't know regarding XII, while on this site(which I'm assuming is more European based, given all the commie-tinged squealing on the "I Hate America" topic) people generally seem to have found XII "forward moving" for the series. That last bit is inarguably correct as far as I'm concerned.

According to you, I would be a Eurocunt. I'm an Americunt.
The reason Americans don't appreciate XII as much as other countries is probably because we compare it to our oh-so-beloved-repetitive-mindless shooters. OMFG Halo 53!!! This "Final Fantasy" crap is for nerds since it doesn't have a HUD and guns!!!! The story isn't as good as Halo so it's the retard!!!
That's the typical reaction of an American to FF, amirite? :wtf: :wtf: :wtf:
I still don't understand why some people didn't like XII. It was great.

I'm with you on XII, but your argument doesn't explain the fact that Americans and Japanese have a strong preference for the sentimentalism of FFX, and seem to strongly be against the admittedly un-ingratiating style of FFXII. Of course, this would be a hell of a lot simpler if this were simply a matter of FF vs Halo and its ilk. However, perhaps I didn't specify this, i'm talking exclusively of the FF fanbase of each region.

Well, I'm european and I love xii. Anyways, I don't really understand why xii was hated so mutch. It was the first final fantasy I played and it was great. Now, I'm playing ffx, and I like the story, but because of the fact that it's pretty linear and you don't have much freedom as in ffxii I prefer xii.

Maybe it's because Americans are so stupid that they don't need characters in a game to have a purpose to be there, and perhaps are so fat and lazy that they love a game where you can just put the contoller down and let the game play itself.
OR :wtf: maybe it's nothing to do with region and more to do with personal opinion? :wtf:

No no no, Neal.
Cuntish88 is right because he said so. He knows that on Gamefaqs, people are almost ALL from the US (yeah, he looked at all the users' profiles!!) and that the US gamers don't know what they don't know (which is different for any other nationalities, of course. Europeens, for example, tend to know about the stuff they know nothing about for some reasons. A random guy there may not know anything about quantum physics, but it's in them to still be able to explain every single interesting bits of the subject to you. :rolleyes).

I'm European and I was quite disappointed in XII. I found the storyline quite boring to be honest.
Also, anything to the left of the Bush administration doesn't equal communism :wtf:

 WTF happened here? I don't think that way about lefties... If anything, all the condescension and elitism has come from all the people that have disagreed with me. Gamefaqs had a poll some time ago asking users about their nationality, and the vast majority were Americans:|.
Why does this shit have to turn into a topic about me? My topic is legit. Gamefaqs, as established, mostly American, is absolutely vitriolic towards FFXII. Japan, in a poll by Famitsu, ranked FFX(a horrendously moronic and sentimental story) as their greatest game of all time, with FFXII nowhere in sight. The only assumption I made was about the majority nationality of this site, which I said seems to be European given the absolute condescension and elitism towards anything American.

Saing a "lot of people call him elitis" sounds much more appealing than "one maybe two people call him elitist" and he's so happy that he think he's truly an elitis with couth tastes.

It's not just Europeans who insult your country. It's most of the world....including Americans most of the time.

^You make a great point.
You're right, I did happily refer to them as sniveling little pastries... However, I think i've been kind to people for the most part. I'm only such a pariah around here because of my politics, not because of the way I behave. I actually love Europe, and I've been enchanted by it the three times I've visited, if that means anything to anybody, and I'm sure it doesn't... Which is well and good as far as I fuggin care.

What does that have to do with anything?
Dude was ripping on someone so I ripped back. Pretty common...
As far as your assumption, yes I know that people other than Americans/Canadians/Brits have the internet. But if you're going to be snarky, you should be prepared to have someone be snarky in return.
