Besides Square Enix, who's your fave major Japanese third party publisher?

Yeah, so I making this thread again as the original one got corrupted by a mod yet some regular members were still actually taking it seriously. Kudos to you guys for that.

Anyway, there has been three changes in this version:

1) Nintendo and Sony Computer Entertainment Japan have been removed from the options as they are not third party publishers and instead release only on their own platforms. They can not be compared to SQEX or the other Japanese third parties as a result; they will also likely get votes as a result of console fanboyism.

2) Level-5 have been removed from the list as though they are now a third party publisher they have only self-published the Professor Layton series in Japan and also a Soccer RPG series which has not been released outside Japan. People voting for them will be likely doing so for the games they made or are making that are funded and published by other companies such as Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (Dark Cloud/Rogue Galaxy/White Knight Chronicles).

3) Marvelous have been added to the list for their famous Harvest Moon series.

Those are the only three changes so please vote truthfully and we'll see how the results stand after a while. Feel free to give reasons for your choice. ^_^

It's good that you removed the poll but I think you've made the thread even worse. You can't just remove choices because you think they'll be affected by "fanboyism". You aren't going to vote for Namco Bandai if you aren't a fan. You may believe the entire moderating teams hates you but seriously, if you're going to create threads which you yourself have corrupted I don't blame them. I still think this thread should be "What's your favourite Japanese games company". Limiting it to publishers seems pointless. I mean, hell, EA published FFX-2 here. That doesn't change the quality of the games.

I'm just glad this isn't as bad as your other threads.

First off, when you make a poll you have to make the poll options after the topic gets posted. I guess I took too damn long typing up the choices. :P

The purpose of limiting it to Japanese publisher is by making it so the company that owns and sells the IP is who we have to choose from. Loads of different companies published SQEX games in Europe before they started publishing their own games but at the end of day it's Square Enix that own the IPs and publish the games in Japan. If threw on tri-Ace that wouldn't mean shit as they have not made a single game that they have self published, all their games are owned by other companies.

Still, it's nice to read from you; you're one of the few mods I regard with respect around here.

Yeah, I don't see how this sort of poll would be affected by console fanboyism. But I can't say I really "understand" what goes through a fanboy's mind anyway, it all seems stupid to me.

Regardless, with Nintendo, Sony, and SquareEnix out of the question, no publishers consistently put out games that interest me. I guess the closest choice would be Sega, maybe.

Lately I've been playing a lot of Silent Hill and Resident Evil.

My vote goes to Atlus.

I went with Capcom but SEGA came close as Sonic was the first game I ever played and Phantasy Star Online was my first MMORPG; Shenmue is one of the best adventure games I've ever played also.

Capcom won though as the gameplay and puzzles that make up Resi and DMC are good and I love Megan Man Zero. I'm also a Monster Hunter and Street Fighter fan. Chaos Legion was also a game I enjoyed despite the average scores it got.

Third would be Namco Bandai as I'm a fan of Tekken and Soul Calibur. ^_^

Yeah, that's why meant publisher in terms of the company that owns the IP and publishes it in Japan. Some of them didn't and still don't have a EU office so they license out the publishing rights to other companies that do.

I still go for KOEI, but they are still after Square Enix because it is hard to beat Final Fantasy. If only KOEI started to go down multiple paths with Dynasty Warriors to have one path more fictional.

Yes, i thought it was ok, I never played the first one, but Crimson Sea 2 was alright. Dynasty Warriors has got me addicted and KOEI do no wrong with it, but it seems as though KOEI barely misses a AAA title with all of its other titles and Crimson Sea 2 came just short of being brilliant.

The problem I have with KOEI is that they focus on the Dynasty Warriors IP too much. It would be nice if they made Crimson Sea a big series too.

Judging from the results so far, with SQEX out of the picture the next most popular third party Japanese company is split between Capcom and Namco Bandai. I suppose this would make sense due to the strength of the IPs owned by both companies.

Capcom are amazing at Action games and created the survival horror genre with Resident Evil. Namco Bandai are great at 3D fighters and also own the Tales series which is the third biggest JRPG IP after FF and Dragon Quest.

Hopefully we'll get more votes and see if things change as this poll seems very open in terms of what people are choosing. It sucks that guests can't vote though, that would provide more votes and therefore larger results to dissect and discuss.
