View Full Version : Why BFA is so difficult for some players / nature of CTB

And by some players, I mean the 10 - 14 year old crowd. I personally defeated BFA the first time I fought him, and I wasn't overleveled by any means. I just had everyone reach the end of their natural sphere grid portions / paths (Tidus has Quick Hit, Lulu has Flare, Wakka has Triple Foul, etc).

I had a friend who tried to beat BFA five times and couldn't, so I had to do it for him. His party was way overleveled for Jecht. His Wakka had 6000 HP, Tidus and Auron had upwards of 5000, and Tidus had completed his portion of the Sphere Grid and was partly through Yuna's. This dude had Anima, Magus Sisters, full overdrives on each of his aeons, and still got pwned by Jecht.

I believe the reason why BFA is so hard (for some people) is because most people can breeze through 95% of the entire game without once looking at or using the CTB Turn Order list on the right hand of the screen. You know, that thing that shows a list of turns and who's gonna go next? That friend of mine who couldn't beat BFA said he didn't even notice that CTB thing existed until the final Seymour battle inside Sin.

Knowing and understanding how to use the CTB is vital to defeating Jecht. There's a reason why the game is completely turn-based, it is tactical and strategic in nature instead of relying on quick reflexes. When I beat BFA for him, my strategy involved Auron's Armor Break and Quick Hit with Wakka (who was the strongest in that game). I had Wakka killing the Pagodas at least once with to separate their turns. I used Tidus's talk to reduce Jecht's overdrives a couple of times. And I had Yuna summon weak Aeons to serve as meat shields to just to take Jecht's hits and overdrives when I saw his turn coming up.

It's funny though, how you can play through the entire game without caring about or knowing how the CTB works, yet FFX will screw you over at the end in a big way for failing to figure out the CTB system. The trick is not to respond to enemies or bosses attacks, but to either prevent them from acting in the first place (by casting Hastega, followed by Slowga, followed by fifteen Quick Hits to death) or summoning an Aeon to take the hit for you before the boss acts. Man I love this game's battle system, but you only appreciate it if you know how it works and how to exploit it.

I was surprised by how easily I killed Braska's Final Aeon. I had a lot of teleport spheres, my characters had their natural grids filled, used teleports to give everyone Ultima (lol), had every aeon, and only three of my characters had legendary weapons. I killed BFA in less than 4 minutes my first time. Actually every battle from Overdrive Sin onwards I was winning first tries in less than a few minutes, which is surprising cause I'm usually bad at having my characters in rpgs leveled exactly right.

Also I never used the CTB, never. I don't know why I didn't cause it could've been very helpful, but I got through the whole game without it.

EDIT: Actually now that I think about it; the reason I did so well was that I trained at the secret Omega Weapon Dungeon. Really helpful if you don't know about it.

You Sir,....... are absolutely right. I never used that Turn order list. I still beat the game though....after 126 hours:wtf:. Grinding in 8 hour sessions=:cathryn:

I lost faith in the Turn Order Bar ever since I'd have my characters ready, and suddenly the enemy would intercept and use its turn early. :nag:

Nonetheless, Reks Ratsbane, your method seems foolproof.

i played through even when i didn't have the magus sisters or anima and still beat him. hell, the last few times i beat him i did it in 3 minutes and that was before i even hit 100 hrs. it's not that hard

Maybe your friend is just really bad at video games?

That is entirely likely Whiplash. However;

"My friend is terrible at video games. He even had me beat Braska's Final Aeon."

or

"(Long-winded post that attempts to be intellectual but basically just rehashes simple points of the game's mechanics) See? I'm so clever! Discuss my intelligence! Agree with me!"

It's not hard to see why he went with the latter option. It's the only way anyone's going to think he's smart. Of course, the only people who are going to think he's smart are people who probably aren't all that strong in the head anyway, so I'm not sure if it counts for anything.

Holy fucking shit. I've been stalking the forums for about a week now, and only just registered and I am fucking appalled at how rude you are. Apart from the few members and other admin that you have an affinity for, you're completely immature and make negative, smart arse comments on every other topic. This goes for a few other members/admin. You're not really making the forums very welcoming for new comers and is probably the main reason for why it is so slow here.

Sure there are some retarded topics, but do you really need to be such an arse, all the time? I don't give a shit how old this topic is either, it's just a prime example of your stupidity and arrogance.

That's all. I just hate egotists who rub their e-dicks all over people.

Don't forget the e-vaginas.

Braska's Final Aeon wasn't hard for me until the second form, and that was only because I hadn't leveled up my players enough and gotten the best equipment.

The second time I played through, I had more of Lulu's magic, all of Auron's overdrives, players on more than one sphere grid, and to top it all off,
Anima.

The funny thing is, I accidentally killed BFA the second time. I only wanted to cut the fight short, so I summoned Anima, used her overdrive, and POOF! BFA is dead.

It's not just BFA, but all mostly all final boss battles. For some players, the final boss is the one that's hardest or takes more time to beat.
Sometimes.

I don't see why I should have to pretend to like members who repeatedly make stupid, utterly shit threads. Members who don't I'm quite nice to. Thus I encourage the sort of people I want to interact with on this site to stay and post and, ideally, drive off those I don't.

I blame political correctness for this 'be nice to morons and the annoying' bullshit.

Kind of like how they're moving to stop teachers from marking in red pen because it's damaging to the self-esteem of the idiots?

What a stupid comparison.

It's not so much about self-esteem, it's more so that when you are reading someones opinion on something, which could be interesting or lead to a worthwhile discussion, and someone interjects with 'HUUUUUUUR THATS PATHETIC GO KILL YOURSELF YOUR OPINION IS WORTHLESS HUUUUUUR' or 'THIS TOPIC HAS BEEN DONE TO DEATH YOURE STUPID LOLOLOLOL JUST WAIT UNTIL *insert member name* GETS HERE AND SEES THIS STUPID TOPIC LOLZ', it just makes people stop giving their opinions.

Why don't you just close topics that are old or stupid, instead of being internet tough guys and scaring away new members and decent discussion. You could start with this one .

it just makes people stop giving their opinions.

You know what? Good. If it stops people from saying stupid things, I support.

Personally, I'm interested to know what you thought your post would do. Did you think it would change something, or did you think your opinion would hold some weight?

Go sook some more.
