Stupid PS2 SwapMagic Laser question

In order to use my SwapMagic, I had to remove the front cover of my PS2 disc tray by breaking off the bar with the PlayStation logo on it.

My PS2 now looks like this:

I did not unscrew anything. Am I correct to assume that I am safe from the laser as long as I didn't take the disc tray apart?

I wouldn't want to be blinded just because I tried to import and play a Japanese game on my American PS2.

So if you take the top off and then unscrew the drive system, that is the only way that the laser can be exposed, right? I hope it doesn't shoot out at ya when the tray is ejected?

It's not that kind of laser, the worst u could do is break your ps2 or lose a screw. o.o (I guess thats kinda bad). Also I'm pretty sure it won't blind u as long as u don't stick your eye into it for an hour.

The PS2 laser isn't some kind of death ray, in order for you to be harmed at all by it you would have to remove the top of the disk tray and stare directly into the lens while it's on and attempting to read a disk.

Not an easy thing to accidentally do.

No harm is done, however i would suggest you get SM for a PS2 slim.

All you have to do is install the flip top mod, and swap discs.

My Name is maria PS2 does not seem very practical with the load of PAL PS1 games still at home. Also, I better leave some space free to store a different console instead (Saturn springs to mind)... in the future that is.
