Homeconsoles market is dying in Japan. They only care about portable games.

This is awesome! And for PSP! I still have to play the first one, but I sure am!

edit: nevermind FFAC Reunion is wrong I think, I've seen the contents for this weekly famitsu on neogaf, and no FFXIII...

Edit 2: It seems to be true, since I've seen a lot of FFXIII sites posting it! Finally we're going to have some scans and maybe another main character after a month of emptyness...

As much as I loved the first one (second favorite game this generation) it looks like I won't be supporting the sequel. PSP, what a disappointment.

If games I want keep going to PSP, it's going to get to the point where I'm going to blow money on the system, buy games, but NEVER play them (or at least never bother finishing them) because I hate portables.

Sucks it's for PSP, hope Sega sees the reaction everyone is having.

And I EXPECT there to be a hoem console sequel, once PSP has helped build IP awareness.

I don't understand why everyone's so pissed about it being for PSP, you should see what's going on on gametrailers.com.
One fucking scan and so much hate already. Awesome.

Haha. That's Gametrailers though.

I think it's becuase the Western gaming enthusiast is far more invested, and interested in the HD consoles. Whereas in Japan, the majority of people find it FAR more functional to have portable games.

Ofcourse those are both generalisations, but they do apply AS a generalisation.

I personally am very unhappy that it's on PSP becuase I don't have one, and I hate portable gaming. But I am happy that the PSP will help boost the IP.

Famitsu spilled the beans on Valkyria Chronicles 2: The Royal Military Academy of Gallia. The story takes place two years after Valkyria Chronicles and introduces a new cast of characters. Even though this game is for PSP it uses the watercolor style CANVAS engine.

Sega explains the concept of the game is “school + war”. You control a group of military cadets as they head for battles in the south. Similar to Persona 3 and Mana Khemia seasons change and different school events come up.

So, if Valkyria Chronicles 2 comes out this winter I guess we can hope for fall 2010? That’s a reasonable amount of time for Sega to localize this, if they pick it up.

[uggh, it won't let me post it]

Cool.

The 'CANVAS Engine' is real smoke and mirrors. All it is is a filter; and so it's an engine named after the filter. xD

But this won't be on the CANVAS engine. I am sure the CANVAS engine to work on portable platforms.

But it sounds great, but it still makes me wish it were on PS3 or 360. I just want to see the prettiness with the new gameplay. But I won't moan anymore, thanks for the link.

:D

I could tell.

Still I like the sound of the features, I'd like to see Gallia in the snow!

"Everyone" being "hardly anybody in their target audience."

Given that it's on the PSP, I wouldn't be surprised if this didn't get localized anyway. Handhelds aren't nearly as popular here and I doubt it's sales would get anywhere close to VC on the PS3 (outside Japan I mean, it will blow the PS3 game away there). I guess it just depends on how much it will cost Sega to localize it and what they think sales will look like.

Jesus Christ it looks like it's up its ass with its success. Nothing spells cocky like a "LUL HIGH SCHOOL" military setting. :wtf:

Well we don't know how it will sell, but I agree it's safe to assume it will sell better ont he PSp in Japan.

But the (PS3) game has thrived coming off the back of it's reception. It's had a lot of viral 'word of mouse' marketing.

Valkyria Chronicles was one of my favourite games this gen :( I'd rather see it at least on the PS2 then PSP.

Why do people keep saying it was an RPG? the only thing it had that was at all like an RPG was the ability to level up the unit classes and buy new tank parts.

It's a strategy game.

So RemoteJoy has totally sold me on a PSP, I wish I'd known about this sooner. Just need to get a modifiable PSP2000 now.

As long as the quality of the game isn't reflected by the character artwork in those scans, I'll almost definitely pick this up.

It's an RPG becuase of the level up and stat based gameplay, I'd say.

It's certainly an SRPG.

I do not really care what system it is on, I loved the first game so much. My favorite RPG out right now and it is getting a sequel. The graphics of the first one were kind of cartoonish and I believe I the PSP is very capable of similar graphics and play style. The story better be good though...

Shame that I hated the first game, but despite that I finished it. I thoroughly enjoyed the battle system, but that alone didn't make up for forgettable characters, poor skill development, and linear story; AND there was no replay value. I'll pass on a sequel.

Wow.. I think my problem was with the not quite faultless battle system. I really liked the characters.

I thought they did great work on in-game characterisation. A game where you have to handle interpersonal quirks and such, was part of the attraction. And also quirks relative to the characters you were controlling. It was a spectator soap in that way.

And I can remember pretty much all the characters becuase of it. You could give me a name or a face and I'd give you the other respectively.

I'm still playing the first one and so far loving it. Too bad I bought the japanese version when I was in Japan, and even though I speak the language I'm not a master at it, so I do miss a lot of stuff... I'm planning on renting the US version after I finish mine so I get a good grip on the story.

Honestly I wish this sequel would come for the ps3, but hey, since I have a PSP I'm not all that mad.

The one that was on PSN as a demo? Played it and didn't enjoy it too well surprisingly.
