Nomura's Dengeki Magazine Interview

So Dengeki magazine interviewed Tetsuya Nomura recently about his involvement with the Final Fantasy XIII games and he has said that he is focusing on Versus and Agito now. I'm very glad that he is focusing more on those games. He said that the team is testing out the battle system and some map gimmicks. At the end of the interview he said that he asks us to be patient for some Versus information because once he gets to a certain point he will show us something "surprising" but here's something not everyone knows: he's still working on two other projects besides Versus and Agito. Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep and Kingom Hearts Coded. Do you think Nomura will ever get around to finish completing Versus? And what is this "surprise" actually going to be: another trailer with more footage or actual gameplay. Sqaure Enix should let him focus on one game at a time, it would be a lot easier for them to get the game out on the store shelves faster. Tell me your thoughts in this fourm.

Um, Nomura doesn't make those games by himself. Just because he's directing several games doesn't mean progress is only made on one game at a time.

I agree with you because of afew reason. I've played and loved final fantasy games for their turn based combat and final fantasy versus is said to be more action oriantated but that does not mean that i wont like versus (I most likly will because i did like kingdom hearts) however I probably won't like it as much as FFXIII. Another thing is that Versus is meant to feel more real by being more "down to earth" and i'm not a big fan of that idea. Basically I treat final fantasy versus xiii (and agito) as a sort of side game to Fabula Nova Crystalis and ffxiii as the main game. This is all my own opinion though as I have played all final fantasy games before XIII and their turn based combat is what kept me playing final fantasy games.

I know Noctis seems really gay, but I have to admit, the game in general, being realistic and urban is so awesome.

I wish more Japanese developers were this daring. I also wish Western devs would make JRPG xD

I have to admit, I think of Versus way more positively, I love the action and I love the themes and I am just really excited for it.

I might try to make a 2D JRPG set in a cool, realistic world.

For me, limos, utopian Japanese cities and the badass suits (they aren't gay, they are just badass) is why it's gonna be great.

So to continue the conversation, if you'd like to join me, I personally think Versus looks really unique in terms of art design. Way less cliched than Vanilla XIII, which some parts in the E3 footage could very easily be from White Knight Chronicles or something. I look forward to XIII, but Versus just looks cooler in my opinion.

I totally agree with you, i love the style they are going for Versus, the gameplay concept they are going for and the setting even though it's taking Sqaure Enix FOREVERRRRRR to get the game out. But then again if you take your time with something you really can make a great masterpiece just like Metal Gear Solid 4 was when it came out. I am really starting to get bored of the same stuff that Square Enix is doing with the Final Fantasy games, I am not saying that the other games are bad it's just they are starting to lose some of thier popularity with some of the more recent games they have been releasing. I do not hate turn based RPG's, I did enjoy FF VII when it came out back in '97, it had a great story and good battle system because you could get limit breaks a lot more than you did in FF X:P. What I am trying to say is that it's good that Sqaure Enix is going for some changes this time around with the franchise, not just for Versus but for the other FF XIII games in the compilation as well. New takes on franchises can be good business for companies even for those who have never played a FF game before in thier life, it can attract new players to a franchise.

i don't know if you minded watching, but almost everyone in this forum, has discused what you want to discuss till, desperation.

See the unfortunate thing is, most of the stuff we know about Versus XIII, may have changed, the footage that we have seen so far *besides the Stella/Noctis cutscene* is all very very early footage. The characters don't even have their final designs in those trailers.
They all get new clothes, Noctis' eyecolor changed, and I have no doubt that some of those scenes will change *if not all of them to some degree*
We have zero gameplay, except for a few early concept shots.

Just wait for up to date information, there is no point in discussing all of the old info.
