Keeping up the 'Final Fantasy' essence

The new games from Square-Enix in Fabula Nova Crystallis, in most peoples eyes, are the new generation of Final Fantasy Games am I right? The series and this compilation have evolved so much. Does everyone remember playing the First Final Fantasy games (I don't necessarily mean the NES versions of them, but I mean any of the recent remakes for it like the PSP,Dawn of Souls, DS, etc.). Didn't things seem so primitive, since it carried on a more of an understandable story and more...um.....'older' characters. I can't find the appropiate word, but characters who used simple swords, less modernized clothing, and people actually dressed like knights and rode those cute little chocobos. You know, the original essence of Final Fantasy with its simple but breathtaking music and a more younger era. The ones where job classes were real easy to define and set.

So far, these games from this Compilation have appeared AMAZING (in my opinion), but looking back on the previous games, do you think that you can truly say this follows in the classic essence nearly every Final Fantasy game has. The one where you can play a game and easily determine that it's a Final Fantasy game. Those kind of Final Fantasy games that after you play and look back on it, all the events and story can all be described in their common series theme?

What I really have to say is that FFXIII, FFvXIII, and FFaXIII can and probably will be sucessful games like most of the others, but do you think it can live up to something we can TRULY reminisce as Final Fantasy Game and the essence it shows?



Listen to this and think, do any of Fabula Nova Crystallis games come to mind? Do you think they will live up to this simple tune that gives off the idea of most FF games? Give an opinion as to whether it truly describes it? The first game that would probably come to your mind listening to the theme would probably be the game that you think truly gives of the greatness a FF game should always have.



Also, an opportunity to look back on how Final Fantasy has evolved, and whether or not you like its newest direction in Fabula Nova Crystallis.

Dang, you've got a point. I can't imagine this main theme song fitting into the new atmosphere XIII is set in. However, if we do hear this song in the game, I think we'll instantly say, "Yeah, now this is a Final Fantasy game true to its roots."

Oddly enough, I was just thinking the other day, "will they include the obligatory FF themes - the main FF theme, the Prelude, the victory theme and the chocobo theme?" The main one might just be restricted to the end credits, but the other themes I think are fairly adaptable (7 and 8 were technological and still had them).

No, FNC will be different, but each FF has his own theme. I didn't like the FF tactics theme from FFXII, but I loved the FFX theme. I just like the theme of FFXIII. For me it isn't about the items, Npc and traditional FF stuff, but about how you think about it when you played for some time. I still remember some of the nice moments from FFX, and that feeling is special, and enjoyable by everyone, every age and place in our society. I'm sure a lot of people have this feeling with FFVII (Aerisis death, running through Midgar,...)
And I'm sure that when you've played FFXIII for some time, and the stories of each character comes up, with a few emotional scenes, and with the true past of Lightning revealed, you will have the same FF feel like the other FF's. Without thinking about what you could have done better in your life, you will have some feel of "I'm perfect/completed"

Also they've worked 5 years on the game, and it's Kitase-sama.
Those who play RPG's, with understanding, without looking at all the other people who play shooters/fighting or race games, THAT are smart people....

you're right mercy. can you just imagine an extremely emotional moment in games like call of duty or any sports game. i mean that kind of scenes and the bonding with the characters really make you say: "that's one hell of a game". and those moments are then remembered for a long time.

Yeah, I have to agree with you guys there as a fellow player who's gone through those feelings time and time again.


-Another thing to add is that later final fantasies don't follow the tale of an unbalace between light and darkness somehow being tied into their respective storylines.

As for the main theme, The first FF's that popped into my head were FFl and FFXII (and Dissida, since the ending credits of the game played a similar version of this song as all of the hero characters parted ways and Warrior of Light walked towards the castle in the distance as if it were the start of FFI all over again ^.^). Unless XIII and VXIII have this theme for at least the ending credits, the games wouldn't entirely have the same essence as past FF's (FFAXIII, though, may turn out to be a different story).

the most recent 'classic' Final Fantasy would be IX in my oppinion, characters with defined classes, classes only learn their own stuff(no more knights casting Firaga, ...), that is one of the reasons IX is one of my favourite FFs, its the classic ideas with modern graphics(at the time IX was made)

I hear that and the first FF that comes to mind is IX, which IMO is the 2nd best FF, also FF XIV comes to mind, because it also has that midevil(?) thing going. And I really hope they turn back to steampunk and midevil(?) like era in FF15, because it's been a while now :P

Overall I believe more players have a connection to the 'Crystal Theme' than the song 'Final Fantasy'. Final Fantasy is only really played during select portions of the games (sometimes only once) while Crystal Theme is all over menu's and those 'press start to skip' opening credit scenes.

Even that beautiful theme I find is hard to match up with the FFXIII Universe (well, the original based ones played mostly with an orchestra and harp). But we all know that the Final Fantasy Theme is one of the most memorable tune of FFXIII, and so is the Crystal Theme. I just hope that it's just as mystical as it was before in the previous games when in XIII.
