Yet again videogames are made the scapegoat. :wtf:
Violence has existed since the dawn of mankind while videogames have existed for what 20-30 years?

oh wow, violent video games do not cause violence XD. Your right violence has been around long before video games. Violent videogames have the opposite effect on me, they relieve the pressure and stress, though i suppose i can't expect everyone to believe that.

violence has been around since cain murdered abel, thats freaking long.
maybe instead of banning games they should make the ppl who play them (and make them) take psicological tests.

Video games stop me being violent, because I have a virtual outlet for getting all aggressive and crazy when I need to. I'd assume for the majority of people it'd be the same.
I remember someone (can't remember who) said about films during the whole 'video nasty' era in the 80's and 90's that films don't make psycho's, they just make them more creative :wtf:
You could easily apply the same to games in my opinion.

I think violence depends on past experiences,life-style and one's own sanity...it is foolish to put all the blame on videogames...THAT's what I believe...

Amazing, it's rare for a country to have such enlightend leaders who are willing to take the steps needed to secure the well being of their country in this day and age.
Now all those people who've been taking out their frustrations and violent urges with the use of computer games will sink back into society peacefully and become well mannered, useful members of the community!
/sarcasm
Or, it'll just make people pirate games more and hurt their economy by driving their game development studioes out of business or into other countries (I.E Crytek)

but don't they realise videogames are the modern day medicine or marijuana that keeps us off the streets
if it ever happens in america you might just see the crime go up by 2 million people.
i mean we have more than enough to take to these people that video games is the least of their problems

The problem is that while for many many people violent videogames provide a sufficent outlet to frustration and anger, it's not widely publicised. How many news articles do you read about a guy who thanks violent video games for letting him vent? But the small minority of people who are sick beforehand and would have ended up doing something wrong regardless of videogames might indeed end up doing something related to or because of a violent game, and that of course gets heavily publicised and thus causes this type of crusade against them.
The end result is open to debate and will never be proven one way or the other and thats the problem. They'll most likely have to wait until the current generation's children are the ones in power to lower or remove the restrictions against them.

I have to say, violent video games do affect people in reality. When people play or have an addiction to video games, sometimes they do become perplexed whether the gaming is in real life. or.. just a simulation.. for entertainment.
But I think that law.. Or what's about to become a law is stupid. No point in banning it when there still will be playing violent video games at home illegally. I mean how would the government know anyway? If we relate to other goods which people are considering to ban such as.. cigarettes in some countries, alcohol.. etc... It's just stupid. I mean probably the elders would agree to this but what about the children?? The teenagers?? Think about the conflict that would be caused.. All this.. Crisis.
So I guess my resolution would be... Something like this.. Instead of banning violent video games, why not make the producers reduce the violent graphical images?? Reduce the standard of the violent. Instead of just banning it. That's what I think anyway from my perspective. The government needs to smarten up in my country ... *sigh*

No, the true problem is that some people can't distinguish between fiction and reality. These kinds of people SHOULD NOT being playing video games since they can't comprehend or tell the difference between the two. Now also there are people out there that think it's cool to mimic what they see in games , which does not help us folks who say that violent games aren't bad.
Like others already said already, violent games really help out people relieve their stress, anger, etc.
The same with pornography turning people into rapists. Even though this isn't true, there are people that can don't know the difference between reality and fiction.
