This is it apparently; the new brainchild of Yaz & Monolith, as commissioned by Iwata the sexy beast. Looks....unfinished? Some have billed this as a final fantasy killer, if so they've a ways to go in terms of graphical polish. Still the gaemplay looks tremendously intriguing, like a cross of FFXII & Monster Hunter. Besides, since it's directed by Matsuno we all know it will part the oceans & heal the sick.

Looked interesting until cliche looking blond kid picked up the red sword and discovered he had some sort of secret powers.


Also this being a Wii title don't expect it to come close to XIII or Versus' graphical quality , imo they should make all Wii titles have a "cel-shaded" look, that way they avoid making the graphics look outdated

I totally agree, although if this title achieves around the graphics of XII I'll be more than happy.

As for the blonde kid, I'd also agree, if it weren't for the fact that the genre is overflowing with cliches at this point (and I have far more faith in Matsuno than most). Still wish he'd dream up some sort of spiritual successor to Vagrant Story, at least in terms of mood & presentation.

Nah man, Sakimoto...his style is very apparent in this trailer. Besides he's composed for all of Matsuno's games thusfar. She's working on Bowzer's Inside Story though haha....not to mention like over 9000 kingdom hearts games.

I'll be damned if I kind find it, but there was a series of press releases by both Matsuno & Sakimoto where it was made clear they were working together on something. The little touches in the strings & the heavy drumbeats midway thru the song reminded me strongly of Tactics.

But still listening closely after reading your post, you may be right. The rhythm figures sounds like something straight out of Kingdom Hearts & I'm surprised I didn't hear it before. I'm also not too familiar with Shinomura's work so perhaps I was fooled.

Makes me wonder if there are several projects Matsuno is working on, since the two are working together. Could it be, a new Ogre Battle?!?!?!?

I'm afraid Ram is perfectly right here, any VGM fan would tell you this is Shimomura and no one else. This has absolutely nothing to do with Sakimoto's or even Basiscape's style. On the contrary, it sounds just like Kingdom Hearts.

Matsuno working on this project is nothing but a rumor, I think. The fact that he was supposed to work for Monolith was a rumor as well.

As far as the "series of press release" is concerned, I don't remember anything like that. It is true, however, that Sakimoto said in an interview that he was working with Matsuno on at least one new project.

So it was confirmed that Matsuno is working with Monolith on this? Game looks terrible, visually. More to do with the style and less to do with the console.

Hopefully it turns out good though.
