View Full Version : Kingdom Hearts 3 in development?

As E3 progresses it does not mean other news suddenly stops. In JETTANY Quarterly Magazine there is an interview with Utada Hikaru about the soundtrack of Kingdom Hearts 3.
She apparantly declined to sing the theme song for the game because she would not get payed for it. There were no further details but it could mean Kingdom hearts 3 is already in development and that we might hear something soon on the Tokyo Game Show or Jump Festa later this year
–Are you going to be involved in the soundtrack for Kingdom Hearts III?
Utada: I don’t think so, I don’t know. Probably not.
Mr. Utada: We said no to Disney.
Utada: Ohh…
–You turned down Disney?
Mr. Utada: Yeah. Because they don’t pay.
–Because they don’t pay, yeah. My parents work for Disney World, so I’m sure they’d be in agreement with you on that.
Utada: They can have a drink over that [all laugh].
–Okay, so going back a little bit, the fact that Exodus was released in English also in Japan, was that a conscious decision? Was there ever any pressure either on your label over there, or from other people to say, “Well, if you do Japanese versions of
these songs, they’ll be so much more accessible, many more people will get to that?”
Utada: Uh-huh. Well, from the beginning, yeah…before doing that contract, I’d done a few songs where I had to translate, like for Kingdom Hearts, I had to make an English version of the song “Hikari,” which became “Simple and Clean,” and then also for Kingdom Hearts II, I had to make the Japanese version which was the song “Passion” and then the English version that was “Sanctuary,” and that was so hard, it’s just—and it felt strained—and as a result, I’m happy that I worked hard to do those, because those English versions are really good and “Simple and Clean,” I think, is a really good song, and people…most of the people that know me here, they know me for that—but it’s not ideal for me as a writer, to…because, actually, I changed the melodies for “Simple and Clean” and “Hikari,” because when you change the language you’re singing in, the same melodies don’t work—and as a writer, it’s just very frustrating to have, like…I wrote these melodies for Japanese words, and to have to write in English for that, it’s just not right. And then, so, for this, uh, this contract with Island Def Jam, in the beginning I separated it to this English language album, and I don’t do Japanese translations. I just, my integrity as an artist just would not take that, could not take that.

damn, well disney needs to give her what she deserves because she's a talented artist. the fact that the slave drivers don't want to pay her will end up screwing themselves over rather than her. for people who got money over money over money, they're cheap asses :(

It's cool, but be careful with bumping threads that are TOO old, as it makes the mods get nasty.

Well, you see, it makes no sense. A board is basically where people post questions, or ideas and then people respond.
Normally, something that was posted months ago, has no need to be bumped... Ever.

Is Disney a failure just becasue you don't like their movies now that you are older? No. My niece is growing up with this generation of Disney movies and she loves them like I loved the ones from my time.
Wall-e is from Pixar, all their movies are good.
As for KH3 being in development, I really doubt it. If it is then it was stopped because of FFXIII. It was delayed so Versus was delayed, something like that. I don't see KH3 anytime soon.

basically, until the last game that nomura is working on, which i think is KH:BBS or possibly versus13, we won't be getting ANYTHING that will confirm that this game is a go

You're not as up to date as you might hope.
There have been numerous interviews already, where Nomura states that the planning stages for the following Kingdom Hearts title are underway and that they have indeed become more serious. Obviously the stage they're at is the discussion stage, considering matters of story-line. He states that he is thinking in a more serious manner about KH3, however that the next title may not neccesarily be KH3. He tells us that even if the next title is not KH3, it will be a main game in the sense that it won't be a handheld spin-off title (like 356/2 days, BBS and Coded).
I'd link you to the interviews, however the site I use for my KH updates is currently offline (not sure why).

I Agree on you with that.
But leaving aside Disney and their new do's (which I don't particularly stand) I guess all we have to do is wait and see if the new artist can give the game a really good song and a theme we can always remember. ;)
Thanks for posting the pics!

There are a ton of rumors on the game but currently it is suspected to be called Epic Mickey and it's on the Wii. Now I'm not saying this is fact or anything, those are just the generally accepted rumors. I won't believe anything until something concrete like this issue comes out. And so far it doesn't seem to be related to Kingdom Hearts.
As for the Birth by Sleep Secret Ending, I can't wait for it. If Birth by Sleep definitely comes out this year like it is supposed to we could have the trailer available before the year ends :D

You know if this does turn out to be true I feel like I will be a lot sadder than I probably should be. I'm really hoping Birth by Sleep will have a new theme from her. Hell I would pay if Disney doesn't want to. And of course I would want her to do any KH theme after that :D
