FF11 is a great online game that had a lot of potential and I mean it, and I'm not saying it cause it's Final Fantasy. I hope SE learned from ff11's mistakes and improved on that for 14 if they did then World of Warcraft will have some serious competition.

Personally, I think this is great news. Regardless of FFXIs shortcomings, a new FF in 2010 is incredible. Besides, the scope and environments in that trailer seem to lend credence to a different type of MMO. If its a PS3 exclusive, it will be optimised for controller play and that, to me, indicates a more action based MMO. It might be a masterpiece... Then again, it might not.

man, another ff! Well i'm looking forward to see how well they do it for a console (that's what consoles miss anyway). Might give it a shot if it's affordable. This is quite smart though... Sony let FFxIII go multi-plat and holds ffvs13 and 14 as exclusives. That's basically pushing most FF fans to buy a ps3 and makes ppl think that the future FF games might be exclusives too. Sony def saw this as a great opportunity. A MMOrpg (a genre that needs to appear on consoles more) FF style, with the tag as a main FF game. I wish they showd FFvs13 aswell though...

Sony is doing great financially. You're forgetting that they are making $$$ from 3 different systems. As you said it's better to let 1 go multi-plat and others exclusive. FFXIV should be a multiplatform. It's online, common! What was SE thinking?! XI was on PC and 360 and that makes sense.
Oh well, there's a pattern with the numbers again. There will be one title for FFXV that comes from FFXII development group and then there will be a big compilation FFXVI when the PS4 is announced. Haha... LOL This never gets old! I just see through 10 years ahead of time. :D

Probably MS. Sony has at least 2x the asset portfolio of Microsoft. When it comes to consoles its liekly more or less even. Sony lost a billion on PS3, MS lost a billion because of their extended warranty.

I think its the reason Microsoft has been so rabidly aggressive this gen: releasing early, buying up exclusives etc. They're desperate for success in the console game because they need to be.

I fucking knew it. I've had a dormant FF14 site for a few years, and whenever I was bored, I'd tried to gleam as much information as possible. From the start it was hinting at that unnamed MMO project being Final Fantasy XIV, and that it would be medieval-ish. Guess what happened? Exactly that. Final Fantasy XIV has been in the making since 2005 Usually when companies announce a MMORPG it takes them 2 to 3 years for it to release, but I can believe 14 will hit shelves next year considering it's been in the making since 05, if you guys remember SE has been working on ff14 since that time, there is even old trailers of it on youtube.

i sure as hell noticed it. i was squealing with joy because it wouldn't be ported to the 360 (don't care about the pc). i don't hate the 360, but when it comes to certain games, i feel as though they should stick on one console. fanboyism, i know.

at any rate, if they DO decide to port it over to the 360 (which SE seems to be emphasizing now), that's a great thing. more ff for everyone. i know i'm getting it for the ps3 though ;)

Very likely it will come out for 360 eventually, but if Jack is to be believed it won't lauch at the same time.

They said they are considering other platforms, including Microsoft hardware. No a shocker if you ask me. They can have it console exclusive for a few months and then the Xbox 360 version releases. This means Jack didn't lie.

I was hoping that for their next venture online, they would go for a more futuristic sci-fi look. Esthar of FFVIII, Midgar of FFVII, Cocoon of FFXIII... imagine being in a world with cities like that, but ONLINE !

Futuristic weapons (Gun-Blade, Laser Sword, Buster Sword, Rifles, Laser Rifles, etc...) mixed with ether magic (yeah I know, ether is more like Xenosaga).

Imagine the concept of FFVIII (but without it's gameplay) in an ONLINE world. You can choose to be a SeeD mercenary for a specific Garden, an Esthar or Galbadian soldier... or a freelance mercenary. I could elaborate more, but it would take me pages.

Indeed.Square puts massive amounts of money in a game like that and the idea of it is that does profit for a long time so that perhaps they stand more financely strong for a long period.

There are very few things that are realy untouchable i think.
Many players just go to the newest popular MMO after playing updates for years.
WOW will eventualy come up with a new game but perhaps they lost some players by that time.

I can't for the life of me see how the Buster Sword is futuristic... But I do agree with the Scifi enviros :O most MMORPGs these days tend to hop back a few hundred or thousan years rather than forward for most parts.
