Final Fantasy V.

Its got far better gameplay than any previous game in the series, provides excellent challenge & the quest is long & interesting. It also has terrific music. The story is cliched (though that could be said about any game in the series) but very charming.

People point to IV as being Square's first masterpiece but its very early & unrefined compared their later games, especially VI. The story is decent but aside from a few great characters (Kain) & great art it's nothing special. Fairly ridiculous at points actually. There are some great bosses though.

Everything that Square later became famous for--story driven RPG with cutting edge presentation--first appears, and coheres, in IV....but still I'm not especially fond of it. I'd rather play III tbh. FFV is money though, best customization system in the series.

Also Butz.

I love you:wub:. I completly agree.

In my opinion ff5 has the best gameplay in the series mostly because the job system and the chalenge level. I never played a game with such a hard/easy balance. FF4īs gameplay is ood because when you want to cast a magic you have to spend mp and wait for the casting time, it was crap. They remove this from the followings ffs ( expet x-2).
Graphics and music are superior in ff5. I enjoyed ff5īs storyline more than 4īs but i understand if someone says that 4īs is better. 5īs stroryline was a perfect and well-made cliche. I really liked it.

4 is boring, in my opinion. 5 is wayyyy better.

V's story was boring to me. The battle system was great, a good improvement from III but the job progression was way too slow for my taste. I think the way they handled the job system was much better balanced in X-2. If only it didn't rely on these stupid Dress-spheres... :wtf:

So for me, it's IV. In fact, there's no question there.

IV. It's one of those stories other FF's can't beat because of the attention to the characters. That's to me though.

V had the better battle system, but IV had the better story.

^yeah

..i dunno, but FFV was way too cliche for me. FFIV's story was good but gameplay-wise FFV.

there should've been a poll in this thread, though

V has far and away the better battle system, but that's about it. Story: dull. Characters: pathetic. Character development: Either non-existent or instantaneous ("I don't like you. Wait..... okay now I do."). IV has the advantage in those areas. After that it comes down to a matter of what is more important to you. Personally I enjoyed both, but for different reasons.

Why did Cecil have to become a paladin though? WHYYYYYYYYYYYY?

Final Fantasy IV is better in every area other than the battle system. I still enjoyed FFV more. The problem with FFIV is that you had to level grind many times and it took away the fun factor. I agree the story in FFV wasn't as good as in FFIV, but I didn't have to grind every few minutes in FFV.

FFIv had an insanely annoying last dungeon. And that's what spoils the game, becuase other than that it was very good.

FFV's only redeeming factor was the battle system. Everything else was boring as hell. The stories, the characters, the plot, everything was so dull I almost felt myself going to sleep.

FFIV had the superior story, therefore I like it better. (Except Rosa. I despised her.)

when you put up ff5 vs ff4 i gotta go with 4 when i played it i was kept interested, the leveling was great, there were some hang-ups like tellah, cid, edward, fosuya(fusoya, whatever the fuck his name is) but i sure as hell enjoyed more than ff5 which took forever in a damn day to get 1 job mastered for 1

Ain't played FFIV yet but I do wanna say that I actually really liked the FFV cast. Sure, they're pretty one-note and don't particularly grow during the course of the game but then again V is all about the poking fun at itself. As someone once said, "It is a game that recognizes itself as a mode of entertainment, and refuses to take itself too seriously."

With that out, I'll add that I found the bunch to be fun, cute and charming.

I enjoyed FFIV more but I still think FFV is a great game. The job system was brilliant and was one of the stronger points in the game.

I just played III and IV for the first time through the ds remakes. I've slept for 1hr combined over the past two nights because of IV. I liked it. I hope that V gets the 3D touch.

In terms of gameplay and whatnot, I choose FFV. But in terms of story, IV, because it's just so passionate sometimes.

I would have to say that V has the better overall battle system. But IV is better in everything else. So I would go with Final Fantasy IV.

IV is my second favorite final fantasy behind VII. IV story is so captivating and brings you in and the characters are just awesome.

I haven't played FFV yet but I've just beat FFIV this week and I agree completly with what you said about it.

For me the game starts with a bang, and just the first 3 hours of it make the story seems better the the whole FFIII. But the gameplay in FFIII is so much better, it has it's punishing moments but FFIV has a lot of cheap battles, especially after thousands of random encounters in the huge dungeons.

Storywise, even though FFIV is good, in the middle of the way I got disappointed because of continuous come and go of characters especially when most of them just appear like a second ago (Especially Edge). I think FFVI story is better than FFIII but somehow I had much more fun with FFIII than FFIV.

Anyway, this discussion should be about FFIV and FFV so I'll stop here. When I play FFV I'll update my thoughts on it vs FFIV.

I'm currently playing FFV and it's great so far. As for FFIV, I plan on getting to it because I've never really put in the effort to completely finish it. I'll reach a verdict soon enough.
