It's a bot IMO. The other forum I'm in used alternative human check and is working well. We didn't even have a spambot anymore for several months.

It was a bot, one we've had before. Normally we're pretty good at getting them before they cause any trouble but this one managed to pick the exact moment when every other mod was asleep and I was at uni. I've taken care of it now.
