Who here is a LOTR fan? Because quite frankly I love it. If so what is your favorite story other than the Lord of the Rings, mine is the story of Beren and Luthien.

without a doubt, it is probably the best book that I have ever read, have you read anyone of the books of lost tales or such, or the children of hurin??

I've read them all, I don't like the lost tales I & II as much as I like Silmarilion.

The Children of Hurin is just a fleshed out version of the one included in Silmarilion, but it is one of the better stories. It's just so damn sad.

Even if i like the LOTR trilogy it isn't even close to the stories of Beren & Luthien, Turin Turambar or the fall of Melkor.

What other sereis do you like?

well i just finished Brisingr in the Inheritence cycle and that was pretty good. As well I read the dune series. I tried Harry Potter but couldn't get into it. I like Dan Brown and his books Digital Fortress, Angels and Demons. Ummm... Artemis Fowl is interesting, but it was like 3 years ago. The halo books to.

You can not be serious. If you actually read the Silmarilion you would realize how dull and petty the War of the Rings is in comparison to the war of the Silmarils, the betryal by Melkor to the Ainur, the deceiving of the eldar, the task of Beren to recover the silmarils to marry luthien, the slaying of Glaurung by Turin, The fall of the Elves, the rise of the Men, The Dunedain. There is simply no doubt that the silmarilion is the better work. Saying that the Lord of the Rings (which Tolkien even said was not his most important work) is an illinformed statement. The Trilogy is good don't get me wrong but it pales in the sight of the depth and grandness of the Silmarilion. I trully question if you have read the Silmarilion.

yay... lotr fans!!!

Yes! I love the silmarillion! Its wonderful! But you still can't deny the beauty of the original books. They were completely captivating and offered everything in terms of epic storytelling. And one of the greatest things that were a result of the books, imo, were the movies... now don't hate me. I just think that the movies portrayed the books extremely well and and you could feel the epicness of it.... Quite honestly, the movies are gonna become classics someday

As for the Silmarillion... well just read it for yourself ;)

The movies were good and all, but they shouldn't have come with shit that didn't happen in the books.

I guess that's why they had :"Based on the books of J.R.R. Tolkien." This gave them the freedom they wanted to mess around with some events. They were still very good movies.

I love Lord of the Rings, and that's my favorite of Tolkien's works. Other than that, I love Silmarillion too. I was lucky enough to get movie posters for all 3 movies because I worked at the movie theater at the time. I also got a giant RoTK banner which will go in my basement movie theater some day in the future when I have one, lol.
