Also how does the pendant link with lightning, let along who gave it to her? Squall having the lion accessory was one thing since it matches everything about him and linked but I really can't see Lightning with the pendant.

I really do wander but what does the pendant symbolise within the story but then again this could be a joke from SE seeing how late they show this.

You see it on the FFXIII logo (the bottom) some people think it's her gunblade but I think that's a form of Lightning-à-la-Amano.
In my opinion the pendant is large at the top and gets smaller at the bottom (Lightning's personality inverted?) also Lightning strikes unprepared and is verry impressive.
And of course... Lightning is her codename and I don't think that she has chosen that name by herself and that she's pretty much aware of her real name, but wants to hide it for some reason which I'm sure that will be a big part of the main plot at the end ...

Edit: I've just beated the last boss in the demo and noticed that the dead woman also wears a pendant.
