I recently came across a very high quality picture of the Versus guy sitting on his throne with his sword. Here you can clearly see the engine and the mechanics.

It looks like the engine is connected to the blade, but I cant see how it might work. All I can think of its the engine opening the blade like scissors xD but that would be stupid D:

Im trying to write about it on my weapons page so i need some help xD Any ideas?

Hmmz I can't really see the pic in its original size cuz of my phone, but maybehh the engine warms up the blade to extreme temperatures for more comfortable hacking & slashing...? Plus its just friggen kewl ^_^

Judging from what it looks like, the only thing I can say is that it involves the use of magnets.

Reason being is that its the only reason how they can float and are connected. By tampering with the magnet and flickering the sword (think of how you fly a kite somewhat) you can manipulate how the weapons move and rotate.

Still this is very strange since Nero's sword has an engine as well.

i dont know if the trailer i saw was modified hacked destroyed eaten etc etc
but by the sound the sword made i would consider it a chainsaw or a compact motorcycle XD

Seeing as they can rotate and float I dont see how they cant mimic a chainsaw or engine. (Saying that for puzzles the weapons may have to make "energy" to move something. Or how like magneto uses his powers to float or walk to different areas).

I say the engine that is powered by crystals makes the sword magic and makes it possible to teleport to it.
Just a guess because in the trailer at the end when he powers up the engine, theres all this magic stuff flying around it.
it could be diiferent but im guessing you can power that sword with crystals making it magic and theres different crystals for different types of effects.

Sry buddy but DMC4's Nero was not made by Tetsuya Nomura but rather Makoto Tsuchibayashi.

If you looked closely on picture identifying versus swords there was another sword which resembled the one he picked in trailer. so that sword may possibly even use a type of crystal fuel itself

That engine sword is awesome. I love how at the end of the trailer you can here the engine. No wonder he picked that one out of the rest of the swords surrounding him.

i have no leads as to WHY he even has an engine, or multiple weapons in the first place. couldn't one or two weapons be good enough? i mean ya its a cool shield and all, but you can just get a shield and make it teleport in front of you

Well, maybe it works sorta like a gunblade. Instead of pulling the trigger to make a vibration in the blade to do more damage, you use the engine on the sword, and to do that you would need the crystal fuel.

I think its about time a final fantasy used the power of the mind as a magic. I mean, there will be skeptics, but telekinesis is out there. I saw a guy lift a spoon with his mind...and a piece of string...

But surely, from the trailer we can see, he has about 50 weapons, each of which probably with its own fancy function like fire or "boomerang"

Well, this is Nomura we're talking about, so figuring this out won't be that easy since he's very unpredictable. So we must consider all possibilities. What if the weapons themselves are the crystals? Also, the glass like shards could also be individual crystals, which he would use to control the swords and deflect the bullets. Obviously a few swords have engines on them. If you notice (in the pics) there is no trigger or button noticeable on his main weapon. Which could mean that the engine is activated by motion alone. The fuel probably gives his weapons different effects. They could simply be elemental, like fire, thunder, or ice. Or they could be used for a limit breaks or special attacks, that he could use to take out large groups of enemies. Nomura also stated that he's trying to make parts of the game like Kingdom Hearts. If he applies anything from Kingdom Hearts into the battle controls, you could probably expect "Reaction Commands" like those found in Kingdom Hearts. I also have another theory. What if this crystal that he's protecting, is actually a person. (In most FF's, the definitions of words are easily changed to make the game interesting) So the crystal itself doesn't necessarily have to be a stone. The female heroine of the game, could in fact be this "crystal".

The Heroine [thread title], Page 8:
I have a theory regarding the heroine. This was originally posted in the "What are the Crystals?" topic.

Theory:
Let's suppose that the crystal has a conciousness. It may have the abilty to create a humanoid being as an "extension" of itself into the world. What I am saying is that the heroine could be a manifestation of the crystal in humanoid form. So while the King protects the "object" crystal. The being created from the crystal could be wandering around elsewhere, who knows, she may not even know she's the crystal...it's hard to explain. Going to what Desi said the King could know this and himself be searching for this girl, but as you see he kinda has his hands full keeping those guys away from the "object" crystal.

See what I am saying? You can do yourself a favor by looking through many of the threads. Lots of interesting things.

maybe the sword cab use crystal powers to bind an element to the sword like when he swings it he can get fire on his sword with his mind or a trigger or something but that sounds ridiculous :p

maybe he can take out the crystal of his sword and link it to another weapon, so he doesn't have one weapon with special powers IF the weapon has pecial powers

have you all seen Hellsing? I hope the Prince does what Alucard did. When he unlocked certain points to his power. Then he kicked ass when he unlocked this last power. Igniting his sword like we also did in FF8 with the gunblade.

However, someone mention magnets, But I don't think that's the case. But look at the big circle on the engine part; the blade is in my theory mounted offset at this point on the inside, with an "axle point" at the place where a little arm connects to the blade near the end on the top side to move the blade in the fashion of a stick saw with movement in both vertical and horizontal movement, thus making the blade hack it's way while slashing with it. And for a wild guess, the little arm on the bottom of the engine is the carburetor...

But look at the big circle on the engine part; the blade is in my theory mounted offset at this point on the inside, with an "axle point" at the place where a little arm connects to the blade near the end on the top side to move the blade in the fashion of a stick saw with movement in both vertical and horizontal movement, thus making the blade hack it's way while slashing with it. And for a wild guess, the little arm on the bottom of the engine is the carburetor...
The mechanics of it seem a bit like a chainsaw :aldo: .But the rotary action of it would still mean its control would be difficult to sustain.If it is a carburetor then where is the explosive mix of vaporized fuel?

well i just hope they dont ruin the fun we have in other FF games of obtaining a new weapon, since it looks like he oredy has his own collection lol. On FF13 it looks like she will only have one weapon, cause if that is not the case, they will have to at least come up with 6 different gunblades, that look different, and coller than the original... can you imagine what they will come with??

Srsly, look at where the cylinder is placed, doesn't it look like the connecting rod meets the crankshaft just by that circle? Could be that the blade is mounted at the crankshaft itself, but that'll be little likely as it leaves an opening for dirt to come in.

And Blank, when I said carburetor, I meant the carburetor adjusting handle :aldo:

But is the engine two-stroke or four-stroke? I know there was some outside differences, I just can't remember what....

That's what I would think. If each weapon has a unique personality (similar to weapons in DMC) then I'd be happy.

In general, the Engine Sword vaguely reminds me of Fenrir, Cloud's sword scabbard/bike.

I think there may be some viability in the "crystal fuel" theory, but also, i think it may be a modern version of the futuristic http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vibroblade

well, in the end of first trailer, when prince summons the sword, we can hear a motor roar.
it can be useful for fast attacks or something, or just giving a bonus damage. Like in DMC4

i don't know...obviously there is something that looks like an engine...but who knows...maybe it's just something like "decoration",to make the sword look great and not just ordinary...and maybe inside it lies some great crystal power that ables him to do all that "take-their-guns-away" thing he did in the trailer and some other cool stuff we'll see when we get the game....i don't know....
Decoration?Its seems all well too extravagant.There must be some minuscule purpose for the 'decorations' or they could interpersonally work together like a chain reaction to form one major function.

They *did* make a replica of the First Tsurugi from FFVII: AC, fully able to disassemble into the six different swords Cloud uses throughout the movie. I thought that was impossible, but hey, they did it.

The MOST awesome thing they could ever do was to actually fit a real, working engine onto the replica... imagine that :P

Why not? A replica is possible as there are some incredibly competent people out there-You have people create intricate sculptures often small in size.You have things created on a nanoscale so the complicated design of the swords handle can easily be replicated.

the game needs a point system of some kind in order to use the swords.

I recently came across a very high quality picture of the Versus guy sitting on his throne with his sword. Here you can clearly see the engine and the mechanics.

It looks like the engine is connected to the blade, but I cant see how it might work. All I can think of its the engine opening the blade like scissors xD but that would be stupid D:

I think it might be similar to DMC4 with the exceed gauge
