View Full Version : Screenname Origins

Yurian
Feb 10 2007, 12:50 AM
I always find others' screennames to be interesting, as it really gives some insight into the person behind the online intarwebs browser. Perhaps it would be interesting to share some of the history or personality behind our screennames.

My screenname is Yurian (obviously), and it's pronounced "Eur-ee-en" with the "Eur" like in "Europe", "ee" like in "pee", and "en" like in "hen". On previous forums and other online pages requiring membership, I had always gone as Ninetales, the nine tailed fox from pokemon, because I found that particular character to be the most awesome pokemon character! However, after a while I just thought it was too unoriginal to choose that screenname so I created my own character - "Yurian".

The name "Yurian" evolved from the name "Urian" - just with a "y" added on for a more unique aspect while still retaining the pronunciation. "Urian" is Greek for "from heaven" (according to online name generators).

It sounds rather corny, but I created the character for purposes like everybody's online roleplaying characters - one that I can develop and give an original personality to. Yurian, in his animal form, is a four-tailed kitsune with the elemental affinity of snow, ice, and the rare and unique four petaled lily. In his human form, he is characterized with bluish-white hair and dark-red eyes.

Inferno187
Feb 10 2007, 02:09 AM
I'm was nicknamed inferno by my friends cuz I like to set things on fire...
Plain and simple xD
I've actually set a entire sportshall on fire (by accident of course -_-) and twas one of the biggest fires in the country. I was just skating over there and wanted to light my smoke. But there was this hole in the wall with emm you know foam for ehmm I can't find the word atm xD. You could see smoke rising for 30k away xD
Well its nothing to be proud of actually, thank god twas on a sunday and nobody was inside...

Exodus
Feb 10 2007, 06:23 AM
I'm known as Exodus elsewhere, and Exo is just short for that. I got Exodus from my Early Civ class. Saw it and thought it sounded cool, plain and simple.

I was Raiden on here a while back, which was obviously when I was going through my Metal Gear phase, but I finally found a username to settle down with permanently.

Wind
Feb 10 2007, 12:18 PM
Winds are a powerful force. They can be gentle with a warm breeze or vicious with a searing gust. Generally a wind comes and goes while staying the same regardless of the season.

But why I chose it? Fate blew the idea to me :)

S-r-ex
Feb 10 2007, 03:12 PM
my name....back from the good old pokemon days. it is a short for "Shining Rayquaza EX". or in my vision back then, the ultimate pokemon. it has just stuck to me, and in recent time, I have discovered it is also a programming language.

Xelien_5.0
Feb 10 2007, 11:36 PM
Umm well, I once started writing a story for essay contest, it was about 4 pages and was called "Xelia" and after that i started writing more into it,with the help of my cousin, and is actually the size of a novel. Well anyway in the story the word "Xelien" is a type of person i there. I use it alot in other places so the 5.0 part is because this was the 5th time ive used it.:D

Sora
Mar 06 2007, 05:31 PM
Kingdom Hearts.. pretty simple

Momo
Mar 06 2007, 05:42 PM
Back in my H.S days some of my friends used Momo as a pet name for me. >.>
Either that or Mo which I hate, reminds me of the damn three stooges, no thanks. They called me momo becacuse my actual name has M and O. and then i've always had people having problems pronouncing my name wrong >.<
Anywas so there it is plain and simple.

Rekhyt
Mar 06 2007, 05:45 PM
Rekhyt was the name of a character from the Bartimaeous Trilogy. I think it means "the people of the pharoh" or "the people of the lower nile" in ancient Egyptian.

Anyway i had been looking for a good name for a while and then i found it.

Flint
Mar 06 2007, 05:51 PM
Flint is the name of one of the main characters in the Japanese GBA RPG Mother 3 (the sequel to Earthbound on the SNES).

I chose it simply because I liked the game and thought the name sounded good!

Askyria
Mar 16 2007, 03:55 AM
Mine really doesn't have any meaning to it, I made it up when I was on vacation in Washington DC, thought it sounded good, so that's what I use now xD
As far as I know, no one else uses Askyria other than me.
Okay wait nevermind, I just searched Google and I found a couple other people using it. Although some of the ones that came up were mine, too xD

HotLaMon
Mar 16 2007, 01:55 PM
Lol there are only 3 HotLaMons anywhere on the NET and I am one of them. My Uncle was the first, then me... The 3rd guy was from somewhere in California, but he died out (He stopped using the name).

I'm sure everyone has heard or seen Dragon Ball/Z/GT, but did you know that it was based on a Chinese/Japanese/Indian/Thai/Vietnamese/Cambodian/and possibly more--legend? Most know the legend from the Japanese version as "Saiyuki". But from my experiences I think the story originated in China (only because they have more influence in Asia). Okay you will notice in each legend there is a Monkey that becomes a god. The name of the monkey is Son Goku in Japanese, Tong Ngo Khong in Vietnamese, Sun Wu Khong in Chinese, Hanumon in India, HotLaMon in Cambodian/Thai. I'm Cambodian if anyone didn't notice--lol--so I picked that name to show a slight pride in my culture and in honor of my uncle.

Go on Google and search up "HotLaMon", "HotLaMon38" or "HotLaMon14"... Every search result is me ^_^.... Seriously... >.>

38 is for Three 8's in my birthday 08/14/1988
14 is for the day I was born.

Try looking up your name on Google. Lol.

Lifrasthir
Mar 16 2007, 02:11 PM
My screenname is pretty self explanitory. Or rather, it was explained in my introduction.

Tempus Fugit is 'Time Flies' in Latin. Ever since I heard Somnus Nemoris(FFVersusXIII's trailer music) I did more research(Wikipedia) on Latin words, Latin sayings, ect. One day I was looking around at different web layouts(Myspace, Xanga, ect.) and I saw this saying on one of the layouts. It stuck with me cause the quote really says truth. (At least not at school.)

Yeah that's it.

Rikku
Mar 17 2007, 05:01 AM
My name is pretty obvious.

It's Rikku. Geez. Originally, it was going to be Destati with my Roxas obsession and whatnot, but Cheryl made me stick with Rikku. :glareglareglare:

Interesting names.

My originated when our totally awesome social studies teacher was going on about this thing called the Chaos Theory. Basically, it states that no matter how small something is, it has the potential to set a very large event in motion, leading up to something big... Say the apocalypse, for example? Like if a kitten fell in a garbage truck, it would clog up some machine in the garbage dump. Then, the garbage would fester, creating a new strand of virus, wiping out the city, then wiping out the country, all the while evolving, until it brings about the end of all life on the planet. o.O

Sort of like dominoes, isn't it? One kitten=death of 6 billion people.

Rikku
Mar 20 2007, 12:41 PM
Jason, I believed the analogy he used involved a butterfly and a hurricane...

Y'know, the somewhat saner analogy.

But nice name. Reminds me of when Matt put some nonexistant word on during scrabble when he could've put "dominos" and caught up to Tim and I. =p

Yes. Well. I don't like kittens. Got a problem with that?

Oh yeah, something about a butterfly flapping it's wings, and how that somehow became a hurricane.

I REMEMBER THAT, I REMEMBER THE THING WITH THE SCRABBLE!!! XD

Yeah. Too bad it's not in FFXII! T_T The best weapon is Zodiac, a pretty normal spear. Bring the old weapons back, dammit!!! All the good ones are gone! *Sob*

And, no, not the Butterfly Effect. It's a description our Social Studies teacher used to describe the Chaos Theory.

Whoops! It is in FFXII! It's still really weak, though. =(

He's right. Seph came first.

actually it was the ultimate weapon for all characters in FF1nes/ps1, the 2nd most powerful dark sword in FF3nes, Edge's ultimate weapon in FF4snes/ps1, the ultimate katana in FF5snes/ps1, a very powerful katana for Cyan in FF6 and Frog's ultimate weapon(when powered up) and a very important story element in Chrono Trigger

all of these thing came first before moma's boy

and if you want to be really technical check this

Aha Vidya~.

Vidya originally comes from an original character I had awhile back that would have played a major part in my novel. After I did a major revision of the plot and characters, Vidya's major part had to be taken out and was then shortly afterwards was replaced by another character. Vidya is making an appearance in the novel, but not a very major one.

That's it, basically. I've always liked the name and when I had to take out Vidya's part from my novel I decided I'd start using her name as a username.
