OK, I was just messing around with some random tutorial I found. Don't go too hard on me, it's my first planetscape in PS....773

I have tried to do a planet, its no easy task thats for sure. I would begin to blacken one side of the planet or even make the edges glow and have the light source be in back of the planet because your having the light make a huge round about and that doesn't exist in the real world. If you fix the lighting the picture would look pretty good.

Dang, it's been quite awhile. I see the texture is getting better. Texture looking good and improving.

Weeeeell, progression of time would have it to me increasing my PS skillz0rz. Frankly, I didn't use textures in the other two, but I'm catching up on tutorials. And actually, this is a task I'll be handing in to my teacher. Besides, I've been wanting to send a planet into the apocalypse for quite a while now.

yeah, I've experienced it before. I haven't tried Planet's in a good two years lol.

Here's the last one i've did that was incomplete:

I think outer glows give it atmosphere. I'm here if you need any tips on what i did above or planet's in general.

Currently, there's not much I need help with. I'm trying out tidbits on my own, and re-engineering steps from various tutorials. For example, those white bursts got inspiration from a tutorial depicting the moon colliding into the earth, using a white soft 300px dissolve brush that was radial blurred with zoom at 75, while the debris clouds I came to by myself with clouds receiving full barrel distortion under lens correction.

But you seem to be using a different technique for stars than me, yours are kinda clustered? I use gaussian blur 30-40% and then levels, what do you use?

There are a number of ways I do my stars as I don't stick to one technique.

Answering your question though without digressing, in this picture I must have used Noise. Made anew layer filled with black, added monochromatic noise (gaussian). From there, I used a high tolerance Magic Tool for a greater selection and repeated the process while using Levels to darken it too.
