Pope Benedict XVI, who is making his first papal visit to Africa, has said that handing out condoms is not the answer in the fight against HIV/Aids.

HIV/Aids was, he argued, "a tragedy that cannot be overcome by money alone, that cannot be overcome through the distribution of condoms, which can even increase the problem".

The solution lay, he said, in a "spiritual and human awakening" and "friendship for those who suffer". This is fucking laughable. If friendship was the cure to illness, Jade Goody wouldn't be dying of... oh :aldo: Still, that is fucking retarded.

His other solution is, of course, just not to have sex at all. Really realistic, intelligent solutions he's handing out, eh? :wtf:

Adding to that, I don't think the Pope even knows how bad African countries' rape epidemic is. Yes it's an epidemic.

Condoms WILL help with contracting HIV. Yes it will. It will it will it will. I know what I'm talking about. Sexual education is a passion of mine. Yes I know they have a failure rate, but it is relatively LOW. Condoms will fail if you DO IT WRONG or if you swap blood or splooge in someone's wound.

Anyway condoms are only for CONSENTING couples. What about the ones that aren't? Little girls are raped repeatedly in these African countries, and I'm sure boys are too as well. No amount of religion will stop these fuckheaded HIV infested rapists from doing these heinous acts. A bullet to the fucking skull will, but that's besides the point.

Putting the rape aside, the condoms will help decrease the amount of children born with HIV, and decrease the amount of women getting HIV because the men were cheating whores and slept around with many women and giving them HIV, thus perpetuating the vicious cycle.

A nice solution rather then stop having sex is to have sex with only a few people. Now AIDS/HIV spread other ways as well; like using needles, swapping blood, etc. but the main cause of AIDS/HIV is having unprotected sex.

Also the common belief was that Gay Men where the cause of the wide spread of AIDS/HIV, which isn't true. They know the risks/dangers of having unprotected sex can bring, so they wear condoms and HIV/AIDS isn't as bad in the Gay Community as many people think.

Anyways, to get to the point condoms do help AIDS/HIV from not spreading to others, though do remember condoms can break

OK, I don't think you understand what the Pope actually meant. I'm not a Christian, I'm Buddhist, and the last thing I want to do is defend Christianity but your knee-jerk reaction is kind of pathetic.

The Pope is simply saying, and rightly so, that handing out condoms isn't the only solution that African countries should be pursuing. You see, the Pope sees the world through a prism of morality as divined by God (or baby Jesus, or whoever it is that Christians follow). As laughable as it is that people will worship some kind of ethereal ghost, morals are exactly why America hasn't succumbed to the AIDS catastrophe in the same way Africa has. Of course, I'm abbreviating -- America also has the resources to educate its population in the merits of safe-sex. I highly doubt that kids are being taught safe sex in Africa, or that there is even a real, tangible consequence to having sex. Heck, to these uneducated kids who can't read it must seem really ridiculous that they can be killed by some phantom force (disease) that one cannot see. Especially when the person who has the disease does not show any sign of infection and where prostitution is as normal as us going out for ice cream.

So, yes, the Pope is right in thinking that just handing out condoms will not solve the problem. But at the same time, educating them on safe sex has nothing to do with divine right or even religion at all. But, he is the Pope, and he can't go around blabbing about his opinions on things... it's his JOB to be the voice of God by illuminating politics through a theological filter.

Of course condoms won't cure AIDs, but they will certainly help as a prevention. If people stop giving them out and take his advice and jusy befriend someone with AIDs or whatever then the situation will get even further out of hand than it already is. Kids are tought about safe sex by the people that are there to help them, obviously not everyone is but surely the solution is the branch out as much as possible and spread the word, hand out condoms and explain what they do and how they can help rather than saying turning to God is your best chance. :wtf:
