Ok this morning i was extremely annoyed by my spanish homework and decided to do the Mary Sue test (http://www.springhole.net/quizzes/marysue.htm) to Noctis. The final score is 58, and we still dont know much of him
Btw i only picked those options that were quite sure. Otherwise his score would have been +8236482364827364 :wtf:

1) Is or does your character's name...

Involve a noun or verb not usually used as a name, spelled normally or not? Noctis Lucis Caelum is pretty much this
If a noun, is it related to nature, a weapon, a gemstone, darkness, or something mystical? Night Sky Light
Chosen specifically because you thought it had a meaning appropriate for your character?

2) Does your character have a cool nickname or unique title/address? Noct. And he's a prince

5) Is your character described, illustrated, and/or shown as exceptionally beautiful, cute, or handsome?

7) Does your character have a great body/physique, which you describe, show, and/or illustrate?

13) Does your character have any of the following?

Natural eye coloration that stands out from the norm?
Eyes with any other unusual qualities?

16) Has your character been in a lot of physical fights and/or battles, but doesn't have many noticable scars to show for it?

18) Does your character's personal choice of clothing frequently include..

Clothing that is realistically impractical or improper for the character's situation, but looks cool?

20) Is your character impervious to any of the normal limitations and/or weaknesses of his/her species? Apparently he can't be damaged.

22) Is your character some other kind of cool humanoid with powers/abilities beyond human ability?

24) Does your character become a genetically, scientifically, cybernetically, or magically altered/enhanced being, possibly with new powers? Ok, but that's Final Fantasy.

33) Has your character ever killed someone after being provoked? The random soldiers do really count?

43) Is your character unusually accomplished for his/her age, time period, place, occupation, and/or social status? Being the heir prince of the last blabla is enough i think.

In something that is extremely desirable and/or useful in the story's universe? In every universe i think.
In something that is extremely difficult for virtually anyone achieve?

45) Is your character the best or among the best at anything he/she does? One box for each. There were 8, I put one box for his sword ability.

51) Does your character have telepathic and/or telekinetic (Force-like) abilities in a world where this is unusual?

55) Does your character posess power that can take out entire cities/legions of soldiers/general all-around-evil? He could exterminate many soldiers by himself.

62) Does your character ever single-handedly take out more armed forces (EG, security guards, soldiers) than you can count on one hand using his/her kick-butt skills?

64) Does your character alone have a weapon that...

Is magical?
Is unusually ornate?

65) Does your character use a sword-type weapon in a relatively modern setting for no logical reason? Not sure if its logical though. Just Noctis and Stella so far have used swords.

70) Is your character nobility, closely related to a noble, or at least a rough equivalent? (President, governor, etc.)

73) Is your character some kind of 'chosen one' and/or a major part of a prophecy? He could see the "Light " remember?

74) Does your character consider his/her talents, special abilities, or good looks to be a curse? When talking whit Stella at the party we can easily see it.

80) Did anything else remarkably strange or otherwise unusual happen in your character's infancy? Pre-death experience.

You see? He's just perfect :aldo:
We just have to wait to discover others incredible qualities of Noctis :cookie:

I'm concerned that this is how you choose to spend your time :aldo:
If they would just give Noctis new clothes then I wouldn't have a problem with him.
(Except the fact that the world revolves around him....literally :wtf:)

To be fair, the first part applies to just about every main character Nomura has designed.

There's one thing most people don't get about Sue tests - they don't really work for anything but fanfiction.

See, what Sue tests are really testing for is whether you're letting the character take over the story. Now, this is a major problem with fanfiction, because people read fanfiction to read about the characters they love. However, it's not really that uncommon - or even a bad thing - for the protagonist to be the center of the story. Heck, it's basically required in a videogame, since if the protagonist isn't the center, the gameplay would usually be better served following the person who is.

Besides, Sue tests usually forget to take into account the comparison to everyone else. Noct might have a Meaningful Name, but so does everyone else. Noct might be impossibly beautiful, but that's practically a requirement for Squenix characters. Noct might be able to take on a whole army single-handedly, but what videogame protagonist can't?

This test could be useful for my fanfiction. But yeah, that test only really work for fanfiction to the max. Seeing as we don't know much about Noctis to even judge. Drives me crazy to read about OCs in a fanfic.

I mowed down a bunch of Yevon soldiers, and then ONE GUY points a gun at Tidus and he's all "Whoa, okay, shit's cool."

... Fucking pussy.

Though i agree whit your post I want to make you notice this test scope is to make you think deeper about characters background and how others characters behave whit the one you are testing.
Thing such as name, phisical appeal are just marginal because as you said almost every characters is like this.

Strange name is ok, but when the character is like the ideal person whit no flaws, that doesnt do mistakes (or at least doesnt do mistakes purposely), is admired by his buddies and everyone else that he meet in his way is fashinated by him; it start getting on nerves.
I know we havent seen those things yet in the game; but srsly, i know theyre gonna be there :aldo:

Pardon my poor engrish >.>
