Ok, before you read, please understand that this is just a theory/opinion.
If you don't agree, then post a comment saying so. Haha.
We could start debates and stuff.
Here we go.

Looking at the trailer for FFXIII, the forest scene reminded me of...wait for it......the promised land scene from the end of FFVII the game.
So I made the crazy theory that the setting for FFXIII is post-FFVII.
Who knows? It doesn't have to be in that 500-years after period.
Maybe somewhere in-between?
But the technology for FFXIII could be a mix of tech. from FFX and FFVII.

It's a pretty crazy, far fetched theory, but what do you think?

Hmm. Maybe, but I doubt they'd link it to another FF. Not in that way anyway.

It's quite possible actually, just look at FFT & FF XII for example a few hundred years apart. But Final Fantasy VII doesn't have any Crystal's.

Yes it does. They are called Materia/mako crystals. Just because they do not share the same name does not disqualify them from being crystals. Do I believe the two worlds are connected? Not really.

The location takes place in Pulse and Cocoon from what I've read on IGN. And if FFXIII's world isn't connected to the rest of FNC, why would it be connected to any other FF?

It is... a different theory, but it's not very likely....:(

Isn't possible at all :(. This Final Fantasy takes place in a different "universe" so it won't share any similarity in setting with any other Final Fantasy in the series. The only similarities there would be is the usual Gil, Chocobos and Moogles which have been confirmed to all appear in the game.

Not only that, but Square-Enix has made many branches and sequels to FFVII.
Things with FFVII will have to stop eventually, though I think the PS3 remake would have been a great way to end the Saga.

Am I seriously the only person who likes the games being seperate? The idea of them all being directly connected would just be pure fan service. I only like that idea in weird AU type thingys like the way Dissidia looks.

First of all I am no Alternate Universe fan. I also have no attactment to the idea of worlds being connected. But with similar mythology (I think the word SE means is mechanics) it would make sense from a backstory perspective that they once upon a time came in contact/descended from eachother.

It would be too good to be true...
Lightning looks like Cloud --> Lightning related to Cloud

But yeah, i doubt it too.
Too good to be true.
