i wouldn't really call it a fault but i see how you can say that

Don't use filters on photoshop that you think are awesome. Because they aren't.
No filters on photoshop are cool, minus Un-sharp tool, and don't come back and use it all the way up on the meter and expect praise.

Learn to use the correct filters or create your own, use actions and actually use brushes instead of just throwing a filter over an image with shitty text.
And you shouldn't be using text in early development, it's hard to put correct typography within imagery. Don't do it until you think you can.

Brushes are for making your main subject matter in your work more exciting, vibrant, colourful...however you want to put it. I suggest you browse Deviantart for some good free photoshop brushes, always worth scrolling through around shitloads of pages, you tend to find the best brushes at the back ironically.
Oh and if you don't know how to install them, once downloaded copy those bitches go to your C:/ Local Disc Drive > Program Files > Adobe > Adobe Photoshop CS2 > Presets > Brushes
Then paste them into that folder.

Photoshop Actions are a series of tasks which are complied into a single file. makes everything more easy. I only have two actions which i use barely, they are just two filters in the action which give off a vintage effect, such as dull colours in what you'd expect old pictures from the 70's/80's gave.
Personally i wouldn't take using them yet until you fully know how to work Photoshop well enough that you can pass by.

Most of the filters only work well depending on what you use them on. But they are pretty much useless on all accounts to some exceptions.
The only ones i'd suggest you using are within the Blur and Sharpen collections.
The rest are not worth using at all.
