I know it's kinda early ... But I was thinking about the playtime of FFXIII ...
The game sounds promissing, but the fast paced battle make me thing, maybe the game would be short compared with the others ff games ?
What would you guys want to see about the sidequests ? Cause imo they are a vital component of a rpg ...

complaining that fast paced battles make for a shorter game is like complaining that fast text scrolling does the same thing. wtf

I doubt that the game will be fast due to the fast gameplay.
X was relatively the same way, as well as X-2, but they both weren't very short

The fast pace battle won't compromise the playtime that much, if at all. I think the pace will be fine. (Enough for you to a get a kick out of it)

ff games are getting shorter i think, but i dont see any relation to the gameplay, its just the creative team feeling lazy

Didn't they say because of the 360 port there isn't going to be any added international content? (like the dark aeons in FFX?)
Hopefully we get as many sidequests as we usually do though.

I'm not saying one thing will happen because the other ... But i was thinking about de lenght of the game, subquests, playtime and etc ... the battle was a unhappy comparision ...
If you played FFXII, you would know there was around 100 hours of side quests.
Like:
The 30 rare monsters for the Hunt Club
The 8 hidden espers
The 45 Marks
and of course the 30 sky pirate trophies
There are other mini quests like in every city but the rewards are not great at the end of the game, they are VERY good if you do them during the first half of the game when you first explore the cities and need gil.
I really doubt FFXIII will not have this much stuff to do, they been working on the game for like 5 years now, what have they been doing, really.:wtf:

i gotta agree plus i think the playtime will hinge on the size of the gameworld if the whole game is in 3d (ie map screens , how many diff locations ) or how you travel will you have vehicles?I just hope its a whole 3d world that is fully 3d and fully explorable thats what ive always wanted out of ff hopefully ill get it . 12 almost had a full 3d world but it was more like a couple continents in 3d but still cool , if the world is big enough and fully explorable this will be one long ass game with much to uncover.

Oblivion had side quests

Since this is a Final Fantasy game, it'll be 40+ hours long, with a million sidequests that will take longer than the game itself.

I just hope there won't be any crazy %-related side quest like FFXII.

Oh my god, what are you talking about? I clocked 193 hours in FF XII and there are still things that I need to find.
FF X was as long as any other FF before it. And you know what? Back in the days, there were games like FF IV that you could complete with almost everything in less than 20 hours.
So yeah, they are DEFINITELY shorter.
*Sigh*

They've been working for five years on it, but if you remove the time it took to develop the Crystal Tools (AKA the White Engine) then I don't think it adds up to 5 years. But I'm sure there will be plenty of side quests and random stuff to do outside the main quest, just not as much as in XII as far as time consumption goes.

Well I hope FFXIII has plenty of side quests (bearable ones please) and plenty of hidden super bosses (Like Yiazmat from FFXII, that thing had 50 Million HP FTW).

PARDON ME GOOD SIR, BUT I BELIEVE THAT FFIX'S CHOCOBO "HOT AND COLD" AND THE TEASURE HUNTING WAS QUITE INVIGORATING TO THE SOUL. :cookie:

That's what i'm thinking ... What kind of things could keep us busy ... 'Cause the scenario is very different from the previous FF, except VII ...
I really hope for tons of good side-quests ...

I want some variety... and lots of chocobos... and sidequests with more plot than "here's a little blurb, now go kill random 'legendary' monster."
I also want some cute side quests(find Sazh's chocobo's real parents XD), and it'd be awesome if there were a couple which affected the game in minor ways sometime after you complete the quest (save random person -> he opens a shop in a later chapter, refuse or fail to complete a quest -> non-essential character you didn't save is conspicuously absent/certain people lose some respect for you, reflected in dialogue, etc.)
Edit: Oh yeah, I would also love to see some base building a la Suikoden. :cookie: I think this new costal region where all the Nora are sounds like prime customizable headquarters zone.

^ Couldn't agree more, I love every one of those ideas. I'd like more plot related side quests, things that flesh out the story a bit, character backgrounds, answer some questions etc.

Yiazmat was not exactly a hidden boss, it was the last Hunt, hidden bosses where the hidden espers, Omega XII, and such.

I loved how they connected the chocobo game with the world map, it was fun finding all the treasure boxes.:wtf:

I liked Oblivion's sidequests. There was a lot of variety and lots of them. They didn't really feel pointless either.
It would be nice if FFXIII had something similar.

I liked FFXII's sidequests... until I figured out how many of them there were. I'd like some like the ones in XII for XIII, but we need a lot of variety in a next-gen game.
A game with tons of playtime would be really nice, though I'd like most of it to be the main story line, or at least have something to do with the characters.

Ah yes, Omega MKXII, him and his colossal defense. Took me ages to kill him, his defense goes through the roof close to the end of the battle.
You're right about Yiazmat although you do have to kill Hell Wyrm to unlock Yiazmat.
