Quick question: Why Versus? Why not what they did with X like Xiii-2 or something. I'm not saying that versus doesnt sound totally awesome i'm just wondering why it IS versus.

Its latin for "to change direction" or something like that. Its basically saying its the opposite to Final Fantasy XIII.

the simple reason is because versus is NOT FFXIII-2...its an independent title that shares in the mythos of Crystals......its a part of the greater overall theme that is Fabula Nova Crystalis

if it were a sequel it would share ATLEAST the same world...but everyone should know by know that Fabula Nova Crystalis is basically a mini-series of individual titles, with FFXIII being the first...all of these games are not being spun off from FFXIII..its hard to explain, but i guess you can think of it as each game being a different chapter of a book (Fabula Nova Crystalis), except each chapter is an individual story with a common mythos (Crystals)

hope that helps.......

As the developers of FF say "Anything Goes".

Here is a theory that I heard a while back.

Maybe they called it Versus, because the developers for the Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII are versus each other. Tetsuya Nomura is leading the Versus XIII crew, and I think this may be a test to move him up in Square-Enix. Just a theory.

And yeah, Versus XIII is a different game than Final Fantasy XIII, but they both have Crystals.

Here's a theory I just came up with.

What if they named it Versus, because eventually, the worlds of Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII will be against each other? Hence the Versus title. Could be. Could be.

Nah, they said that the latin for Versus wasnt meant to be put in the context of putting the two games up against each other. Or thats what Ive read.

According to what the interviews have revealed, FFVersus13 reflects a modern era - hence the knights in armor carrying guns, and the unknown character in modern clothing summoning swords - whereas FF13 represents the future.

It could be that the two stories happen in the same world, but in very different time periods. After all, there is a myth that binds them together, and so although they may be separated, the two stories must have some sort of underlying theme that ties them together.

In FFX and FFX-2, although they are related, the underlying aspect that connected them together was one of the original protagonists (Tidus). That's why the title's are FFX and FFX-2, because X-2 implies some sort of personal continuation of a protagonist's desire/conflict. I'm guessing that the reason why FFVersus13 and FF13 do not have the same relationship as FFX and FFX-2 is because their stories, although having the basic mythology like FFX and FFX-2 did, do not have the same story or same characters.
