Tool, Incubus, and A Perfect Circle are amongst my favorite bands. Radiohead and Deftones are amazing as well.

What caught my eye is that you mentioned Adam Monroe. Adam is really a phenomenal musician. His ability to improve is mind boggling! I listen to him quite often, especially his Tool covers. -- Lateralus was a masterpiece that I don't think he himself could ever replicate.

If you don't have his 'Illusions Fade' album, you should check it out ASAP (not as good as his covers, IMO, but still beautifully inspired!).

This guy is very good in the improv department. I've been playing/composing for longer than he has and I still have trouble keeping up with his stuff.
