I agree with this. Unless you planned on importing, which I guess will affect some people, it won't make a difference.

This delay would be strictly based on business issues, not development issues. That means nothing would be holding back the NA/EU releases which are already scheduled for next fiscal year. It would likely just make the gap between the JP release and the rest of the world smaller.

Not terribly surprising. As a lot of people already know, DQ is one of Japan's biggest franchises. Sort of like Starcraft and Korea (but a little less extreme). So SE will delay and throw money at DQIX until it's perfect. They won't release a buggy piece of crap in a main line series. As for spin-offs and new IP's, well, that's a different story all together.

As for everyone freaking out, go and buy some other videogames, I assure you that they will make the time go by a lot faster.

Isn't DQIX and X handled by... Level-5? I having trouble trying to find how DQIX affects FFXIII. That is unless Level-5 is too busy with, oohh I dunno, Dark Cloud 3 and the other two White Knight Chronicles. THey're pretty ambitious. It's a financial issue. As far as Square Enix is concerned, FFXIII and DQIX are equals, regardless of platform. In fact, DQIX will probably bring in more profit for the company than FFXIII, so of course they are going to put a lot of effort into it.

The main issue is that Square Enix doesn't want to put these titles out in the same fiscal year for some reason. Apparently it's an issue of not wanting to make too much money one year, but not enough the next. The problem lies with the number of major franchise games they have lined up.

2 DQ games?

We'll probably see DQIX and the two KH games this coming fiscal year (April 2009-April 2010). FFXIII and DQX will possibly be released next fiscal year (April 2010-April 2011). Versus and Agito the following fiscal year (April 2011-April 2012).

Those would be for Japanese releases, western releases wouldn't be too far off of the Japanese ones since they are looking to speed up the localization process to get games out faster.

Edit: As far as those releases go, I also wouldn't be surprised to see Agito and DQX swap spots.

I mean I'd assumed XIII would probably be coming late 2009 (in Japan) anyway, but if delaying DQ to July 11 is gonna affect the FFXIII release date that probably means it was due to come out between June and August, since the main reason I can see for that to affect the FFXIII release date is that they don't want to release 2 big games too close to one another to avoid them hurting eachother's sales (well, either that or they're having their testers that would have been working on FFXIII moved to DQ). Now I reckon 2-3 months should be a sufficiently large gap between their releases so this could mean we're now looking at a September to October release which is sooner than I expected anyway.

Yes, that's true...however they are losing money for whatever reason they're delaying both of the biggest games in their lineup. The resources alone for XIII and DQIX are draining on SE, for JP DQIX will make up the losses (as very few people outside of Japan care about DQIX) but for XIII....so much is ridiculously riding on it the only way they're going to make enough money back is to simultaneously release it.

Regardless, they both will sell no matter the hype, the question is how much and will it be enough at this point?

It's not necessarily a poor decision, as I said before, game developers these days are dealing with multi-million dollar games now more then in the last gen and DQ is like the megadeus in Japan. SE gotta make sure that it follows the same standard of quality of the previous games. The same goes for XIII, I, as well as many others saw quite a few graphical hiccups in the trailer and appluad SE for delaying it to either fix them or whatever else is problematic.

So far for SE their 360 games were buggy, clichy and not up to snuff....the last effin thing they need to do is screw with XIII on BOTH consoles. If they release the game now with problems and they would have hell to pay with the reviewers, fanbases and a severe pain in the ass with making patches.

Right now their shareholders are pissed as hell, I hate to be them at this point.

Have you seen the handheld market over there? It's freaking HUGE! At this point a good chunk of SE revenue is coming from their handheld games on both PSP/DS. Yeah, it's annoying if you don't care (as do I at some extent) but SE is a company and handhelds are a perverbial gold mine.

Amen :highfive: I personally thought that the graphics could be tighten with the low poly hands and feet, clipping, questionable animations....perhaps SE knew that too, perhaps not. But I rather have a delay to tweak and re-render then for them to push the bloody thing out with LR amounts of problems. However I don't want to wait forever either.

Yeah, SE is a business and they exist to make money. That said, there's always been a big difference between Japanese business philosophy, and, say, American business philosophy. After WWII, Japan lost their military industrial complex. So they shifted their economy's focus to consumer goods. Home appliances, electronics, cars, etc. Their nation's survival depended on it, so they got serious about how to do it right. One of their main pillars has always been MAKE THE CUSTOMER HAPPY AND KEEP THEM HAPPY. They achieved this by striving to design and create the highest possible quality products, and keeping the customer in mind when making decisions.

It's becoming more and more clear that Wada doesn't give two shits about whether or not his customers are happy. Apparently all he cares about is if SE's board of investors are happy. Yeah, keeping the investors happy is important too. No shit, Sherlock. But there needs to be a balance. It's stupid to suck off your investors and then throw dog shit in the faces of your customers at the same time. This is a final fantasy XIII forum, you're going to find people who are highly anticipating the game, and don't like hearing it being pushed back (even though it doesn't apply to the US for this one).
