I know there has yet to be any word about the specifics of the battle system.
That being said lets speculate.

Lightning - Warrior
Snow - Monk
Vanilla - Summoner
Guy w/ chocobo in his hair? name? - Blue Mage

Lightning is a Swordsman and a Gunsman. Sazh is a gunner strait up. And I don't know about Vanille being a summoner. She can summon carbuncle, but Snow can summon Shiva, remember?

Snow = Monk
Vanille = White Mage
Lightning = Who the hell knows. Guns, swords and magic, this bitch is all over the place.
Sazh = Gunner

The other three are impossible to tell, but the stuff people say about Goggles being a black mage seems to make sense.

Snow = Monk
Lighting = Warrior (I say a warrior since warriors can use weapons and magic)
Sazh = Gunner

Well, I dont really know if Vanille has any abilities cause I've never seen her do anything extraordinary except summon a carbuncle but I think that was accidental

I'm kinda thinking Lightning would probably be similar to the old Rune Knights... Maybe a class from FFV I'm forgetting. I'm not sure, but she seems pretty unique in her abilities so far. It makes sense for Vanille to be a white mage though, from what we've seen. Plus, haven't we kinda concluded that her weapon isn't a bow now? Or has the opinion changed again?

By the way things look though, I assume every character can summon some specific creature, since Snow had Shiva and Vanille summoned Carbuncle, unless summoning takes on a materia-like equipping structure.

I would hate a job system. FF7 and 8 got it right, IMO.

...even though the characters basically had stats forcing them into certain jobs.

I love it when there's a job system in Final Fantasies. It makes everyone in your party useful and there usually isn't a character that's expendable that just gathers dust on the airship. Then if you want to power-game and turn everyone into the same god in the end by grinding yourself retarded, you have that option too.

If I had to put jobs to the characters from what we know now I'd have to agree with most of you:

Lightning: Rune Knight/ Mage Knight
Snow: Monk
Vanille: Mage of some kind (Her weapon really is confusing. I can't tell if its a bow or just some kind of collapsable staff.)
Sahz: Gunner/ Ranger/ Long-range whatever you want to call it guy
Goggles: Alchemist (Rikku's mix ability, and double item potency like in X-2)
Wakka: No idea really, warrior maybe?
Asian girl: Also stumped, I could see her being kind of a all-rounder similar to Lightning i guess

And I think each person will have their own personal summon, which will add even more to the necesity of using all of your party members. But who knows, I'm pretty much just pulling stuff out of my ass here.

I agree, though I see asian girl like the one who has more precision and less strenght (i dont know the job class =_=) kinda like Tidus.

People here are saying Snow is a monk. I agree, except for the fact that in some trailer, we saw him using a gun and it really looked like his ussual weapon. Maybe he alterns between meele and gun type. Don't go thowring at me already. Think about it. SE said he had a funny way of fighting. Maybe he has a mixture of both.

Snow - monk - no doubt in the battle scenes he only uses his fists and ice magic even though he does sometimes use a gun outside of battle

Sazh - gunner - its basically all he does in that one trailer that hes in

Lightning - rune knight - okay we dont really see her use any magic perse but she does snap her fingers and suddenly gravity doesnt apply which is kinda like a rune knight from ff5 and then she has her sword-gun thing

Vanille - ? - we have no idea, she has this weird bow/staff thing and shes summoned carbuncle from a disk and she hasnt been in any of the gameplay footage

Actually she should be in the frozen lake fighting too. We see her casting Thunder, don't we?

Uuuuuh? a monk shooting,punching and casting blizzard magic.........that is somewhat odd............

maybe all the characters can summon like in final fantasy 8.

imo SE is aiming for something new ... I don't think there's gonna be a job system ... They all sound like jack-of-all-trades to me ... Maybe there's a more raw difference, like "tanker", "mage" (just mage), "long range" etc ...

SE said Snow had "funny way of fighting," well its obvious when you see the newest trailer; he twisted his whole body every time he made a punch.

Snow can summon shiva and we saw him cast blizzard, perhaps the main characters are elemental oriented? This would fit with the fact that shiva is a bike and only Snow can ride it and maybe every summon or most have a special ability for each main character.

Ideas:
Ifrit could break big rocks in the way...
Siren cuuld help you cross a ocean?....
Carbuncle could... yeah forget it

i believe that

Snow: Monk
Lightning: Rune Knight
Vanille: Archer or White Mage (depends on if weapon is a bow or staff)
Sazh: Gunner
Goggles: Black Mage
Wakka: Warrior
Asian: Theif or Assassin

Well here's what I think based on that everyone has their own spells and stuff.

Lightning: Gunblade Expert; (I had to make something up) Element: (Surprisingly) Fire

Snow: Monk; Element: (Unsurprisingly) Ice

Vanille: Archer; Element: Support Skills and healing (It fits with her summon being Carbuncle)

Sazh: Gunner; Element: Water

Asian Girl: ...Dancer (Oh yeah); Element: Wind

Goggles: Ninja; Element: Lightning (Woah)

SSJ Model Red: Berserker (I see him using either a huge weapon, or just goin ape**** on the enemies) Element: Earth

I'm not sure how this "having an element" thing works. Is it l'Cie only?
