About those "new characters"...

I think we can already guess that asian girl, googles and redhead guy will NOT be main characters. I mean, what's the sense of showing the entire character on a trailer and a month later, we don't even know their names or they appear in the official site. I believe this is enough for us to understand that they aren't main characters. I don't know about you, but I'm kinda glad.

I know Sazh was leaked weeks before being announced, and was thought to be a NPC due to him not wearing crazy stand-out clothing.

Anyways, that doesn't prove anything. And the fact that they stand out more than all the 4 characters on the main site and ANYONE we've seen thus far doesn't help either. Same goes for them being leaked almost 2 months ago, and them being "highlighted" at Jump Fest as stated already.

How does that make any sense? Just because a character was not shown in magazines does not mean they will not be a main character. Was Yuffie and Vincent shown in magazines when FF7 was coming out? No. How about Magus for Chrono Trigger? No, we only assumed he was the requisite villain and not a main protagonist. And going by that logic, then Sazh isn't much of a "main character" since he was BARELY announced this year.

Seriously guys, Square Enix has kept this game so hush-hush it became obnoxious, so by all means expect more weirdos with pretentious names and regalia to be announced as playable characters until the game is finally released. They are taking their sweet ass time for this game. They are the ultimate sadistic cockteases. The little they show, the more people cream their pants with anticipation. SE does this shit on purpose. And I am quite sure we're going to have more than 4 playable characters. =/

And sorry Larsa was a main character. A guest, albeit still a main.

I think they are main characters. In the trailer you can clearly see the red-head guy and the asian chick fighting. No idea whether they'll really tie into the story or just become another Penelo-type person. And we sort of do know they're names. BlankChocobo translated them in another thread a while ago.

How long did it take us to get pictures of Vanille after we knew she existed from trailer summaries? (twin-tails references = her) Same for Stella and Noctis's little band of people.

Their HP in their fighting scenes appears to be "???" for some reason. SE is hiding something special about their HP. It's possible that they're unkillable 'assist' characters, guests, or mybe there's just something special about them that SE doesn't want to reveal.


More evidence for Goggle's boy at least being fairly close to Lightning and company: His last lines in the trailer, where he's freaking out about them having been turned into L'cie. Seems like if he wasn't in before, he's along for the ride now. He was obviously there for something pretty important.

For one, I think they are main characters, or at least appear for a good part of the game.

I think the new characters look cool, and honestly do the characters look any more ridiculous than the characters in something like FFX? LOL! Opinions baby, people have different ones and I personally think that the outfits are a 50/50. Like I personally think Sazh's outfit fits him perfectly, Lightning's is well suited and Snow's....is the most lacking of the bunch. Especially when he's with his 'crew' who all look like reject characters from the scrap pile.

FFX's designs were suited for the world, they're elaborate and colourful and Normura was teamed up with the legendary Yamashita Shunya. Together, they are a force of evil....j/k.

However, because of that, FF had sorta of a stigma of Normura's overabundance of belts and zippers...the same crowd (looking through mostly rose coloured nostalgia glasses) was heaping praise on Amano's work. Which wasn't any better with his love of beads, scarfs, stripes and other jiggle jangles, most notably making boys look like girls to the 10th power, far more then Normura. (Don't believe me, take a look at Dissida.)

Now don't get me wrong, I like both designers enough...but XIII looks very toned down from Normura's past work. Which is good...sometimes you have to dial it back a bit.
