Lightning and Snow

If i am not mistaken then Toriyama has said they Lightning and Snows releationship as "Unusual" (read that somewhere else) or "Unique". http://finalfantasy-xiii.net/final-fantasy-xiii/characters.php

So what is it: What is so "Unusual" or "Unique" that it had to be mentioned even before the game release. I mean could that not have been kept secret or what ever? This type of thing has been never been done before such as FFVII or FFVIII or FFIX or even FFX as to explain something. As a result this has been bugging me long time now since it is "Unusual" for Square (lets forget Enix) to be like this. What could be they getting at?

In some ways what exactly is a "Unusual" or "Unique" releationship?

They can be lovers (normal)

They can be ex-lovers (normal again)

They can be husband and wife (Unusual for leading character in Final Fantasy games but has been present in Final Fantasy games but it is normal per see)

They can be brothers and sisters (normal as i can see except it would be shocking)

They can be orphan and Sera is their gurdian (sad but in someway it would be a unique releationship: Lightning grows up cold and wants to do something in life whereas Snow grows up who knows as a theif, clown, a womaniser, yet they have their bond of being orphan. Who knows Lightning could have been a bully, against Snow anyways:D:D:D) But who wants FFVIII again?

They or Snow is Lightnings bodyguard (normal again since its nothing special or weired about that but Snow hasn't been going a good job at it though:nag:)

Please post (if we all do one each) how you can have a "Unusual" or "Unique" releationship and relating it to (Lightning and Snow's) situation would be great.

I think their relationship will be like friend/enemy, meaning that sometimes they fight, sometimes they're happy together, sometimes they don't even want to see each other. Maybe they're both pigheaded so they keep arguing (kind of Zidane/Steiner).

I imagine it's unusual in that they don't seem to get along. Lightning certainly seems to think Snow is a few flakes short of a blizzard (boom-tish). Usually all the main party members seem to get along*/respect each other. The only exception that springs immediately to mind is Squall and Zell.

Im sure they are orphans. Maybe not raised on the same way but most of ff chars are orphans. I think they work for the same organiztion/rebel group and they are forced to work toghether althought they dont like each other very much.

I think that they may be fighting over leadership because they both got different ideas, Snow probably wants to work together with allies while in the meanwhile Lighting wants to work alone. Or perhaps they have the same mission but don't want to work together but end up meeting eachother every single time? Or something like that.

I highly doubt they're romantically linked. From what I've seen, I think they have more of a "bromance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bromance)" even though Lightning is not male. They're competitive, sometimes hostile, but share a deep camaraderie. I can picture them both at a rowdy bar, shaking their fists at the Man.

No there is something between Lightning and Snow. Maybe not love-thingy but something is unusual in every sense.

So now in hindsight.

-Snow looks like does not even know Lightning as they start the story in different point of view in the demo.

Yet:

-Snow comes to Lightning's rescue when she is in trouble, and makes a gesture and says something along the line- "Miss me"

-Snow gets punched by Lightning twice and was close to the third. Why did Lightning punch someone who saved her?

Lightning got mad because Snow could not protect Sera. But its Snows job to protect Sera, as he says himself. Yet Lightning got mad enough to punch him.

So, again, why did Lightning punch Snow, when its not her task to protect Sera or anything?

Once she even asked Snow if he was going to continue with his mission, which Snow replied. "I will complete my mission and protect Sera".

-There is an connention between Lightning and Snow. They know Sera, or Snow does infact (as he says the name end of the demo) yet rest of the main character such as Vanille and Sazh don't.

In the end this only indicates that:

-Either Snow and Lightning have indeed met in the past and have a relationship from then, yet its not your romantic relationship per see. Maybe love-hate relationship which might be new to SE.

-Or Snow and Lightning are the only cooperating on professional level, as in using each other.

My theory is: Lightning cares for Snow for one reason or another. You only punch someone you care for (unless your enemy) as in you hurt your love ones sometimes to protect them or in misunderstanding. Since nothing seem to indicate Snow and Lightning are enemy, then they have a relationship.

Also from the demo, she did not punch Sazh when he even grabbed her but just push him away yet why did she punch Snow who did not even do such a thing?

Also mind you, Snow in the demo seemed a good leader and Lightning must have punched him for some good reason later on and not because Snow is incompetent fighter or leader. And Lightning made a sad/sorry face afterward over "Sera" or to hide the fact she is hurt inside. There must be something going between Snow & Lightning and Sera is a vital link as to what it is.

We just have to wait to see. I can guess that Snow and Lightning met before when she was in the army or her job was to capture Snow. Then a love-hate relationship started as she never could outsmart Snow to capture him and now she has to work with him.

Or it could be even more serious relationship. But that seems unlikely but not impossible.

I think Sera might be Pulse's Fal'Cie, which would give Lightning a reason to care about it - she was looking for it in the demo. There was also a bit of conversation about how they were cursed by the fal'Cie and turned into l'Cie, which is apparently something really bad on its own from the way Lightning sounds.

It seems to me that Lightning blames Snow for messing everything up - and is completely unwilling to deal with his own way of dealing with that - so she hits him. Considering their character types, it's easy to imagine her being frustrated with him most of the time, which would definitely be a different way of interacting than we're used to FF protagonists having. xD

i think.... well... i think that both parties (Snow/ Team Nora and Lightning with Zahsc) were up on the same goal... and Serah was involved in it... i think both of them wanted to save Serah for unknown purposes until revealed by the game...

so they stumbled unto eachother and they got cursed together by Pulse's Fal'Cie and the Fal'Cie gave them the same mission to complete..... (watch the extended trailer and you'll understand)

from what i've seen, they seem to complement eachother... Lightning being the silent type and a DOER... while Snow is the confident type who likes to sprout out sugarcoated words and is reckless....(???)

I'm guessing something romantic after the end of the game...
