Square-enix has brought the Unreal 3 engine for License.

This shows their commitment to make games for multiple platforms since the "White Engine" is made for the PS3 and their other engines may be out of date for next-generation hardware(see Sipheed).

Thats a bit unexpected  Well at least they'll be developing on different platforms now. I hope we get some good PC and PS3 games out of them because Unreal Tournement 2007 looks amazing graphics wise.

That will be a plus for Square-Enix (more money) and a plus for gamers who have multiple platforms. I have every system except the Xbox 360. I will probably get one eventually, but for now, I'm happy with my PS3 and Wii. ^_^

White engine is dedicated ps3 hardware.

On ps3
White Engine>Unreal

In general
White Engine<Unreal

Wtf o_O http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/758/758359p1.html

I read that press release and I can't see anything being said about dropping the white engine for future titles. Am I just reading it wrong?

if square enix *AHEM* cant get around to making an engine that fully uses the capabilities of the PS3, that is crystal clear proof of how discustingly difficult to understand the PS3 hardware is :nag:

so far, development of the White Engine has been a major dampner in getting FF13 going...no wonder why they decided to license the unreal, it removes that giant complication for future projects...they said FF13 and Versus 13 will run on the White Engine, but it will be the last time they use it

i cant understand what these people everywhere keep saying ohh now FF is gonna look dark and gritty cuz its gonna use unreal....the engine does define the art style..its just a tool

just look at Lost Odyssey on 360, this game uses the unreal engine..

i for one think that looks better than FF13..and with this in square's hands, they should be able to create some mind blowing stuff for ps3 and 360 :D

They said that to get more views. Since they are journalist they use tactics to draw you in.

Well, then im wrong in my opinion. Unreal is the brain behind mutiple console engines. Lets see how this turn out. But it would be a shame to throw away a good engine.

Hmm, thought so...some quality misleading journalism there. Anyway though I wouldn't have suspected it this is a good move for Square-Enix as many of the games like Rainbow Six: Vegas have proved the engines worth.

The white engine is meant to be really powerful, and if Square Enix are rumoured to be adding more titles to the Fabula Nova Crystallis do you not think they will just it for that instead so they have it like all to themselves lol??
