I recently got hold of th PC version of one of my fav FF's, FF8. As we all know, FMV's in Final Fantasy have been a trademark since FF7. And that must be the biggest thing that struck me with the PC version... They look fantasic, especially compared to the PS1 version. Look at these screenshots:

So what do you think? It almost feel like standard tv versus HDTV or something and, for me as the FF8fan I am, it feels fantastic to watch those cutscenes in this quality. Never thought the difference would be that big.

Same with all games from that period really :P. Metal Gear Solid looks much better on PC too. The PC is capable of outputting CG in much higher resolutions than the Playstation which was limited to 480p. I will admit, it does look much better than I remember when I played it on PC.

I FUCKING LOVE THAT GAME!! Currently my fave.
FFXIII might take the throne next...I DONT' KNOW. My best friend and I got to know each other through FF8 in sixth grade. Now were seniors.

FF8 was the first FF game I played, and is my 2nd favorite FF game of all time!
I first played the PC version in 5th grade (checked it out from the library).
After I returned it, I went out to get the PS1 version.
I didn't notice much difference in graphics between PC and PS1, at least no real difference that was noteworthy. That's just me though

Actually, the PS1 could only output around 320 × 244, which is pretty much 244i ;)
The CGI looks a lot better on the PC version.

Final Fantasy VIII is the best one they have made so far in my opinion. Truly EPIC game I thought.
It also my favorite game of all time ^.^

From what I've read, the PC version is better than the PSX version (It's also the only version with the Chocobo World mini game). The only downside is the compatibility problems it has with newer hardware/software.

They're basically the same thing except that the PC has (much) sharper visuals. Plus, little things like load times and save times go by much quicker. This was the first FF I ever bought with my own money. Couldn't afford to buy a PS way back in the day So the only FF's I played were this and VII :)

Im playing ff9 with my pc, but does pc affect in-game graphics too??
Didn't the PC version have MIDI's? If so, that would really suck.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that part as well. If you use the EAX hardware sound rendering (not sure if it's compatible with machines nowadays) the music leans more towards that of an actual orchestra. Although it's not perfect it's definitely better than the PS version. By the way, until the PS2 generation, they used MIDI to make music for pretty much all the FF's. You can really tell the difference if when you go to the FF VII (yes, 7) for PC's configuration program and click on the sound tab. Listen to the battle music with software (which sounds pretty much like the PS version's) and then hardware rendering. The difference is astounding.
And to Yellow, I'm assuming you're using epsxe as IX did not come out on the PC. Depending on your hardware the only thing that would be affected would be the anything rendered in realtime. eg: characters, battle screens, battle animations. All of those things should look better unless your machine is really old. Things that won't be affected are the pre-rendered backgrounds and movies. And to tell you the truth I think that the pre-rendered backgrounds look better on the PS. Three's also some glitches in the emulation, but I've played through the whole thing and have been able to get through it all.

The other cool thing about playing IX on the PC is that if you convert your PS discs into ISO files and run the emulation with those, the load times are much faster and the save states work a lot better.

Thanks for the info! Note that with "MIDI" I actually mean midi-files and not the fact that the music itself is synthesized (The most VGM is still synthesized even nowadays).

I have my friend's copy for the PS, but it freezes on the FMV in disc 3 where Rinoa is in the space suit :'(
Another friend of mine has the PC version, and I noticed that besides the resolution of the FMVs, the textures look different and the music sounds different as well.
My favourite FF alongside X^_^
Edit: Sorry I skipped reading the post that already mentioned the audio rendering
